Looking for a job
I'm looking to move my family to Calgary and was wondering if anyone knew of anyone looking for a professional sales/marketing person. Seeing as this is a Calgary forum, there may be someone who has a position that I am suitable to fill.

No it is not.
Are you in retail sales? A product spokesman? Corporate sales? Marketing consultant?

Probably not the kind of answer that you want to fire out in a interview.
Sales is definately not sales.

I didn't realize this was an interview. Sales is sales based on the fact that you need to build relationships, match needs with products, and always be there for your clients. There's a bit of marketing, product spokesperson, and account manager in all forms of sales.

If sales is sales, then go apply at one of the many car dealerships we have in town. Problem solved.
Look, we're asking what sort of products/services you've sold before, what sort of clientele you've dealt with in the past, etc. Have you dealt with large enterprise clients, or do you typically deal with smaller businesses?
And yeah, consider this an interview. You're asking if any one on here is looking to hire a salesperson, the least you could do is provide useful answers to the people who might very well have what you're looking for.

You're right. I was thinking that if someone had a position to fill then I would have a private conversation with that person and see if I was suitable for that position. Excuse my ignorance, I haven't sourced a hockey forum for a job before.
My most relevant experience is working for a independent dealer of Telus mobility products. That included working in a store selling retail, but also a lot of outbound sales, selling phones and packages to small and medium business, as well as some corporate accounts. I left that after a few years, and most recently have been selling cars for Honda. Been here for almost two years to pay the bills, but it's not my cup of tea do to the negative outlook of car sales people and too many ups and down selling cars in a small vacation town like Penticton. I've been in charge of the social media marketing aspect here, and have enjoyed it, so that's what I would like to get into. I don't have a marketing degree but want to get into that aspect of sales.
I hope that helped shed more light onto what I am looking for.

when you come on the baord and state that you're looking for a sales job, you need to know that we need more information so we don't waste our time.
I'm for example a Sales and Marketing Manager for a technology solutions company, so I can tell you without question that sales are not sales.
Did you sell commodity based products in the past, or were you in more of a consultative sales role? What kind of products or technology did you sell because the approach is different in each way.
For example I've been in sales for over 20 years, I started in retail electronics, went to whole sale distribution of computers and computer parts, went on to sell consultative HR services and solutions, and then went into high end software solutions, and I can tell you without hesitation that selling isn't selling.
There's a huge difference between relationship selling and selling into a trusted advisor role for a fortune 1000 or 500 organization.
There are different techniques for asking for someones business.
Can you build a ROI model based around a replacement strategy for a service or product.
Its far more then what you talk about.
Did you do net new sales, or existing client sales. Are you a hunter or a farmer. I'm not going to reach out to you because you stated on a board that you're looking for a sales job, I need to know more. What's your experience level, did you constantly hit quota? Did you deal in the $1000's, 10's of thousands or hundreds or thousands or million dollar revenue levels. Did you deal with major accounts.
Now Pylon on the other hand works for a car dealership, and I can tell you that the sales cycle there is compleeeeetely different from my sales cycle and experience requirements.
Frankly you're opening post was poorly executed for someone looking for a sales job, I'm looking at your original post and it doesn't sell me on contacting you (and I am looking at adding to my team early next year) or even referring you into my network. Your response then totally sunk you.
Not to be a jerk, but if your going to put yourself out there for a sales job, then sell me on a reason to contact you. I know its quiet right now for me because its Christmas, but your style doesn't motivate me to contact you.
You basically had a chance here to sell yourself into someone contacting you based on a anonymous post.
But and not to sound arrogant, I've just given you a free and quick lesson on Selling yourself into a job 101.
