Default Dats-who? Mtl's got a new centre!

"I really have no clue what I'm doing right now." Was Grant's response last time I traded with him. I think it applies perfectly to me right now, so I echo his sentiment.

All I wanted to do is play NHL11 on my X-box, but the stupid thing signed me in to messenger and, once trade talks start all is lost.

To Mtl:
Anze Kopitar
Chris Pronger
Bruno Gervais

To CBJ:
Tomas Vanek
Dion Phaneuf
Mikael Granlund
Cory Sarich
1.24 cheese to balance cap

The Datsyuk trade was all about the future. This one is all about right now. And replacing Datsyuk. And getting rid of Cory bloody Sarich.

Vanek hadn't been playing great and I wanted a passing centre to go with my scoring wingers. Between Pronger and Kopitar, I get an 8 OV improvement over Vanek and Phaneuf. And I got rid of Cory bloody Sarich!

Granlund is only 5'10" with a history of concussion. What a bum. Better cash in while he's overrated. We'll see how his game translates to the NHL.

Pronger is available.

Flame away.

Mjk you're on a roll. The habs get the best player but I like the package for the jackets a lot.

Can we change the name of the Blue Jackets to "Mike Richards and his revolving door of teammates?"

Keep the big trades coming!! Good job getting this one ironed out. We once again see Dats and Anze in the same playoff race!

Maybe we should stick to trading with each other and stop giving Dave our prospects for being the middle-man.

That's exactly what it seems to be!

And he's still got a reasonable team for this season!

For a little perspective, I've put my two trades together:

Forwards: I consider a win, given Datsyuk and Kopitar's respective ages. Simmonds is the key in making this worth it in near future. Vanek wasn't playing great for me, and is pretty one-dimensional.

In
Kopitar
Plekanec
Simmonds

Out:
Datsyuk
Vanek
Smithson

Defense: Significant improvement this year. Significant loss for the future, depending how long Pronger sticks around. Getting Sarich's 4.5 off the books for the next two years after this one is important, though.

In:
Pronger
Gervais

Out:
Phaneuf
Sarich

Prospects: Lost. Losing Granlund isn't such a big deal with Nino coming in, though, and Grimaldi is a guy I've never been super high on, so I'm okay with it.

In:
Niederreiter
4th

Out:
Granlund
Grimaldi

What does this all mean? Who knows. I think I took a net loss overall, but am very happy about some of the pieces I picked up front and where they fit into the future of this team. Only time will tell how it really plays out.
