Default German language courses in Calgary

I'm looking at taking an introductory German language course this winter and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with the U of C Continuing Education or the the Mount Royal course?

Both courses are similar in price and time offered, so looking for any feedback anyone may have. Thanks!

There were evening classes available through the German Canadian Club. Some of those teachers also teach at the CBE German Bilingual School.

PM if you are interested, and I could put you in touch with those teachers.

The restaurant is permanently closed. The club is looking to relocate.

I don't know what this means for the german language school:

Adult Classes: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced
Classes take place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings dependant on level. Prior knowledge of German is not required. Adults in the beginner level learn basic conversational skills. The intermediate and advanced classes are designed to develop a wider base of vocabulary and grammar skills. Classes are offered for ten week sessions in the fall, winter and spring.

I took German in Mt. Royal and I found it to be very good. Her teaching style (I think it's just the one lady) really gets you repeating things and thinking, which ultimately teaches you the language.

With that said, I can't remember much because I never followed through with repetition, so my advice is if you really want to learn the language you have to be extremely dedicated and speak it daily. The things I remember are the things I talk about every day. The course was solid though.

I took the course offered at the U of C a few years ago. It was pretty decent, but I have to agree with 3 Justin 3 that you really need to practice the language a lot on your own time during the course, as well as afterwards. It's the old saying - if you don't use it, you lose it.

Wow the Heidelberg Haus is closed? I always likes that and Edelweiss Village on 19th street when I was a kid. I'm still surprised the latter is still around. I would expect a German restaurant to be able to stick it out but I guess not.

I was there last Saturday - packed to the gills and doing healthy business dishing out cabbage rolls and deli. Reminded me of a German Linas. Here's to hoping places like this go the distance and stay alive in Calgary amidst the Loblaws and Safeway'

The college I attend here in Tuscaloosa (not UA) doesn't carry a German Program. I find it rather ludacris that they don't carry a German Program. The school is 8k students, and they have a new program for Mercedes and some sort of entry level Engineering here at Shelton but no German Program. There is a Mercedes Plant only 15 minuets from Campus and thousands of Germans here in the city. Other than English, German is the most common spoken language here.

You can go to UA but would have to pay UA for classes. When my Fiance was going to a JUCO in Iowa her school didn't have a program so the school had an agreement with University of Iowa that what programs weren't available they would be able to take them at Iowa for the cost of JUCO, not down here though. I just can't believe that they don't offer it. Basically it's the reason why I wont get my associates degree because I wont take Spanish and thats the only thing that they offer.

That place is always packed. I live near there and have relatives who work there. Its a zoo, especially near Christmas time. Us germans need our cabbage rolls!
