I wanted to start a thread here to find out where everyone gets their music in Calgary. I know of all the big chains, but I hate even walking into those stores. So, I was hoping I could get a few suggestions on small, independently run record stores that I could check out in town. Whose had good experiences and where? Let me know.

Recordland in Inglewood (10th ave SE)...don't bother going anywhere else, it's massive.

Hope that helps

Megatunes on 17th of course. But I'm sure you new about that one. I also go to Recordland a lot as well as Tramps to pick up good 80s stuff. Hot Wax in Kensington comes to mind.

Where exactly is Hot Wax? People have told me it's a great place to go, but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'll definitely be checking some of those places out.

I wanted to bump this thread back up though, because I have one more question, in relation to independently owned record stores. Do any of these places pointed out so far sell used music cd's as well? If not, maybe if anyone knows any good used (buy/sell/trade) places, I'd appreciated that info as well.

Thanks again everyone.

^^^Hot wax, Tramps and Recordland all sell used CDs. As well there's place in Marda Loop called The Inner Sleeve that also sells used CDs but I don't know how good it is.

There is a new place on 11th Ave and 14 St SW ,sorry don't recall the name.

And the Urban Sound Exchange up in Crowfoot between Shanks and the cinemas
and Blockbuster and Burger King. Good guys running it and they get a lot of newer stuff.

That Urban Sound Exchange is such a HUGE ripoff!
All of the stock is way overpriced, I guess only rich kids shop there anyways...
I have actually gotten into this with several of the staff. I just laugh at them when they try to explain why the prices are so high.

Hmm the majority of USED DVD's are between $17.00 - $30.00, I can find the exact same DVD at any cash converters for $12.99 at the most.

That place sucks.

I didn't know that,seems pretty busy.

Personally I decided to wait for the next great music source.
Started out with my brothers and sisters 45 collection in the sixties and bought albums then collected 8 tracks in the 70's when I got my first car. Then they shifted to cassettes which I bought 100's of. Then they moved to CD's.
Started buying them but they were so expensive I went back to buying albums from thrift stores. Have about a thousand even after selling a bunch to Bob at hotwax.
Gave away my CD's and quit purchasing any music.

My soccer coach owns and runs Meloydia records on 17th ave. He's got some classics there.
