Default Suit tailoring recommendations

Hey guys, I have a couple suits I want to get altered and knew I could count on you guys for some suggestions.

I have a couple Oxxfords and unfortunately when I got them, I got the pants pleated. I really don't like pleated pants anymore and want a tailor to either remove the pleats or dart them. But given that they're quite nice suits, I want to make sure it's done well. So now, I turn to you guys. Any solid recommendations?

I will make my standard recommendation here. Sears Chinook. Cheap, fast, reasonable. Never had an issue with them. And always done on time.

Bonus points, you can by a Torque wrench while you are there.

Cheap nor fast are priorities, though. Quality is, which I why I was hoping some of the high rollers on here could direct me to their go-to guys for tailoring.

I started a thread on this awhile back.

I ended up hitting Sears as pylon suggested, it's actually quality work compared to Tip Top. There are lots of other good recommendations though.

Never been to a tailor at Sears before, but removing pleats from pants is a pretty heavy-duty job - especially if there is a pattern to deal with. I can't help you with a tailor in Calgary, but you have the right idea looking for quality over cheap/fast. If the guy is skilled, it'll be worth the hundred bucks or whatever. Especially for an Oxxford suit, which is a thing of beauty.

Next time, just say NO to pleats.

I wish I had, haha. I've seen some pretty good darting jobs when attempting to remove pleats, and I have heard that it is possible to remove them entirely (ideal).

Frank, I'll take a look at your thread, thanks.

The usual go to places in calgary for experienced tailoring is either Patrick at Toppers (where i took my Oxxfords to), or the guy on 37th Street just south of 17th Ave SW.

I am not sure where Toppers is at now as the entire Barron's building is vacated.

I don't know how current it is, but 411.ca has them listed as being on 8th Ave SW by the Globe Theatre.

No offense to those who made the recommendation, but the thought of taking a hand crafted Oxxford suit to Sears is just wrong.

You don't spend the money and time for a bespoke suit to take it to the Sears tailor making $12/hr who has no idea the type of craftsmanship in the garment.

That's like going for the greatest steak dinner and instead of eating it, bringing it home and reheating it in the microwave.

Anna's Alterations in the Oakbay Plaza, corner of 90 Ave and 24 St SW.

Anna won't be the cheapest of your options but the job will be done right.
