Tv in a room without a cable outlet, need suggestions.

I'm looking at having a tv in a room that doesn't have an outlet, and is actually on the opposite side of the house on a separate floor from the closest outlet. I was wondering if there are any possibilities to get cable tv in that room. I do have a computer in that room that is on a wireless connection if that helps any.

Can it be done?

My dad works for a company that sells these sort of things. It's a small transmitter box that you connect to your TV and has an antenna to send what you're watching to the receiver. The problem is, you can only watch what's on the main TV you hooked it up to.

Run a cable through the heating/air intake vents to the basement/other outlet, and use a cable splitter to send cable to the new line. Best if it goes from source, especially if you plan on getting a shaw gateway (easier for the tech - shorter installation set-up).

Did this in my parents house many years ago, only problem is that you're splitting the signal, and might have a weak signal if split too much, or if you use a cheap splitter (don't buy from dollar store!!!).

OTA antenna. You will get 6 HD channels, including CCTV,citytv and CBC. Mine cost $16 at Walmart.

OTA is the best quality. Another option might be to get a drill out and run it outside your house.

I think you are fine for low-voltage in cold air return. I think there are some issues by using them in heating duct work though.

Lay cables across the floor and duct tape over them so that they don't get tripped on.

It is actually against code. If the cable catches fire and your furnace kicks on, the cold air return will suck flames and or smoke around pretty quick. You can get specially rated cables though IIRC.

As long as the cable is plenum coated then it is within code. Typically cat5, rg6 and even alarm/telephone wire is plenum coated. FYI - plenum is fire ######ant.

For the life of me I cannot think of any reason why a coaxial cable would catch fire anyway, I don't care what combination of downloading porn and watching hockey you are doing it is a tiny charge that runs through it.

Anyway out here (vancouver) it costs about 40 or 50 for the cable company to do it, money well spent if you ask me.
