Mine shuts off when the break is pressed, which I sometimes hit accidentally. Viper brand.

MacDaddy77 - I think MoneyGuy has one.
Doctordestiny - that can't be right...I'd take it back to the place that installed it.

Our ford factory installed one does this, I found a way around it though. If I turn off the interior light from coming on when I open the door it stays on until i put key in ignition or press the brake.
Maybe try it anyways

I have a relativley good background and experience with installing remote starters. (MECP certified and spent 9 years installing professionally) So I understand you remote start your vehicle from your house, go out to the vehicle when you are ready to leave, unlock and open the door to get in and the cat shuts down only to be restarted seconds later?
Really it all depends on what is used for a trigger wire. The only one I have ever used and is the only one that makes sense to use is the brake wire but I suppose you could use a door trigger but it is a poor choice. I would take it back to where you had it installed to correct. If you don't mind me asking where did you have it installed?

Since we're on the topic, can anyone recommend a good 2 way car starter for a manual car? I have an iPhone but don't really want to use it as a starter.
Thanks

I got this compustar 2 way starter, and the car died in a winter morning. They gave it a boost, and now the starter wont work. When you press the button it does the flashing and everything, but it wont start. Whats the problem here?

A 30 amp fuse on one of the 12volt lines blew. Most likely the one that powers the starter wire. Can happen when a car is boosted and if the terminal on the battery receives a spike.

I do; and got to use it at the Hitmen game on Saturday. Nice to be able to start my car from my seats.

What??? how much does that cost? Do you need a whole new car starter or can it be programmed into a current one?
That sounds like winning.

Nothing to do with the OP, but if anyone is considering getting a started
GET A 2-WAY SYSTEM.
I occasionally have to use the wife's set of keys which only have the 1-way fob (vs. my 2-way) and its a huge pain not knowing if the car actually started or not. Half the time I either accidentally shut it off by pressing button too many times, or it didn't start. Spend the extra $40 or whatever it is and get a decent 2-way.

Pretty pricey IIRC.
About $300-400 to add to an existing system, or north of $800 for whole thing.
There was a thread on CP about it a little while ago (within 6 months).

Compustar has some of the best range IMO I have started my car in the North lots from my seats in section 219 numerous times. The new DEI (Viper) products are good as well. If you have a budget any of the Autostart/Commandstart/Nordicstart which are all the same company are reliable. Stay away from your bulldog type brands that you find at Wal-Mart

If it is accessible you should be able to look up under your dash and see the wiring harness for the remote starter. On the main power harness there will be 2 green 30 amp fuses. Replace the one that is blown and you should be good to go.
The reason that I say if it is accessible is everyone has a different install style. Some guys do what I call hockey stick their harnesses and make them hard to work with or trouble shoot if there is ever an issue. Some tie the brain up before hooking up any wires making it hard to drop the system to again do any post work with the units. I personally make mine easy to access and maintain for such type situations especially during starter season when you are installing 5 or 6 units a day.
Most reputable places have lifetime warranty on their install and should be able to book you in and take a quick look at it for you and fix the issue at no charge. I always did.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I am going to give this a try, and will come back with results.

But what if you have kids or dogs to put in the back seat or in the rear hatch, or putting groceries in the back. Anytime I open any door and the interior light goes on my starter turns off.

"Evil Ken" was considering stinging you along about how it was free, etc.
Because I own a 2011 GM vehicle it comes standard along with OnStar. I can also remote lock/unlock the doors, check tire pressure, fuel left, all sorts of cool things. Very handy when I get the call asking "I have two thingys left on the fuel gauge; do I have enough to get home?
I do have to echo the "Get two way" sentiment. Before the iPhone app came out I had my factory 1 way starter; and most of the time if I'm close enough to know if it started; I'm also close enough to just start it myself.
