I've always been curious on how you found out about this site?

Was it through another Flames site, friend, another method? dumb question, but just curious.

IIRC, I think it existed before that, but that's as far as the database goes.

Oh well I guess the question is now more aimed to the first people to join the site.

Found out about it from habernac and another guy we worked with. I lurked for a bit, opened an account, was flamed, lurked a bit more and started under this alias. I also used to post on the official forum until the cup run and then it got turrible.

(I know I'm later than 01 but this is an interesting subject matter no matter when you joined)

I joined in early 2002 . . . I followed Lanny here from HF. Glad I made the change.

I googled the net to find out where I could get extension cords late at night and it sent me here.

Was there a newsgroup or something before? I might have been on a usenet Calgary Flames forum but it took awhile for me to actually register here. I remember the period when a bunch of usenet groups migrated to forums.

I was an lurker on the Flames usenet newsgroup (rec.sports.hockey.clgry-flames or something like that) and someone mentioned the "Fire on Ice" forum, so I started lurking there as well... It took me a while to finally register and adding my $0.02

That's a really long time ago...

I came here about 2000... after hearing about the on the Sport Talk with Jock on 66CFR radio. It was sometime around the Roman Turek trade.

Somewhat but not really related but this reminds me of the greatest thing that CP has brought to my life. Back before servers were swiched, sometime before 2004 seeing as I use to have a different name to post under, there was a thread created talking about who has actually watched the 1989 final. Well from that a CP meet was organized at Peanuts Sports Pub (I think) to actually watch the game 7 match-up and receive a DVD copy of the game for a nominal fee. As someone who was born in 83 I was never old enough to actually remember any of the game but now that I have that DVD I basically have that game memorized. Anyways I`m not too sure how many of us were around back then during the dark days but that DVD is still the greatest DVD or Blue Ray that I own.

As to how I found out about the site way back when I think it was from when I was an usher at the dome and other ushers were talking about the site.

Also as a side note I was never banned or anything like that with my first name(it was something like flames_1989)...I just never got around to re-activating my account after a server switch once and as someone who rarely posts I didn`t really care

This forum has existed in one form or another since the 90's, but yeah, as mentioned above, it finally manifested itself in this form in Oct 2001 and the rest is recorded history.

Before that, I posted on a bunch of different boards. I usually preferred to post on boards with a variety of different fans (smackchat, hockeyboards, fanhome) because I think I liked arguing about hockey. But fireonice or calgarypuck was a great place to come to friendly confines. That is until Greg Gilbert benched Marc Savard. Then the love-in was over for me.

I don't post much anymore, I mostly come here to read about hockey news as you'll hear about here first, whether it actually happened or not.

This somewhat rude post is when I first realized there was a bigger community of Flames fans elsewhere, though I didn't join here until last year after another website I use to waste an extraordinary amount of time on started to die.

I was on usenet newsgroups and the spam kept getting worse and a few people kept plugging CP, so I joined as well as it seemed legit and not run from someone's basement.

I joined up shortly before the switch to the newish forum software, before that it was a weird tree like forum. I was a little late on the notice about having to re-register, so I'm a little later than the other originals.

I can't believe I've been on here for more than 10 years now.. What have I done with my life?
