I have to say I would like to see the posting stats from that thread. AlbertGQ seems to post twice for every single other poster.
What is the allure of this game, aside from it being a huge topic?
Though, this game is a fine drinking game, when one is bored out of their skull and just wants an excuse to pander to the tourette's in all of us...
edited, as one should never use the word "allure" twice in a sentence (and perhaps never at all...)

Answer to the OP:
It's a cheap and easy way to drive the post count up. Some people really like to have a high post count and having threads where you don't actually have to post any content (i.e. "word association") are great for that.
And it's no surprise that the master of extremely-low-content-per-volume posts, AlbertGQ, rules that particular dungheap.

Photon - do you have any stats related to most viewed/posted threads? I am a stats junkie and it would be cool to see which threads have been participated in (other than the Word association one)

I don't give a crap about post count, it's just a nice time waster during a boring non hockey year.

Which is why you only have posted 50 times in that thread.. and not 418 times.

Wow thats cool thanks.
Looks like we need more hockey talk and less off-topic. A by-product of the lockout, oh ya.

How about the person with the most thread kills, ie the last person to post in a thread I probably have that honour.

A stat like whom has started the threads with highest posts. We all know that odd pride when a thread you started passes the 2 page thread mark.

Jeez these queries are getting harder to write
For topics that have over 50 posts, here's the breakdown of topic starters. I stopped at 5:
transplant99 29
Bingo 28
fotze 24
Cowperson 17
calf 16
Lanny_MacDonald 12
Mean Mr. Mustard 10
the_only_turek_fan 9
Jiggy_12 8
Deelow 8
chris lindberg 8
JiriHrdina 7
Ro 7
MrMastodonFarm 7
Calgary Flames 6
KevanGuy 6
Bertuzzied 6
flames17 5
albertGQ 5
Dirty Mr. Clean 5
Vernie_30 5
If I bump that over 100 posts:
Cowperson 8
calf 5
Lanny_MacDonald 5
transplant99 3
KevanGuy 3
the_only_turek_fan 3
Vernie_30 3
Dirty Mr. Clean 3
Pointman 2
Seachd 2
Jiggy_12 2
Mike F 2
Bingo 2

Those are cool stats, it may be good to normalize the threadkiller stats by dividing it by the number of posts. That way you could see a better picture of a person's likelihood to kill the thread.
Another thing, can you make these stats dynamic so it is like we have standings section of the site where we can at anythime see the top thread killer, top thread starter. Lowest character per post ratio for the one word posters..
By the way if this is taking a lot of time photon, don't bother, it is purely for interest sake.
|
Would this encourage unintended behaviour? Wouldn't want the AlbertGQ's of the world trying to kill as many threads as possible to have bragging rights on some internet site's metric.

That would be cool for sure. I imagine that it wouldn't be very difficult if Photon's already written the DB queries.
I would really like to see the average length of post stat as well. Some of us write novels on here pretty consistently. (Cow, Lanny, just about anyone that rants on the OT forum, etc.) It'd be good to see the, say, top 20 average length posters and the bottom 20.

Heh, the queries are easy, it's integrating them into the site that's more difficult.. I'd have to learn php for starters
Something to look into when I have some free time though, I like looking at the stats too
