motorcycle question
For any riders out there, I just got into riding and I was wondering what do you guys use to carry around your crap? Backpack? Tank bag? I've heard some pretty gruesome stories about backpacks, and I'm looking to haul soccer and climbing crap around, and it sounds like it would be a pretty bad idea to have kleats, biners, belay devices etc in a backpack.
(A lot of guys I know just use a backpack, just wanted to hear any stories of tank bags for anyone who uses them? or is "not cool" to have one?)
(oh and if anyone can recommend one, I ride a Ninja 250R)

I used to ride with a bag with small items and extra pair of shoes. carrying around soccer gear should be fine but i wouldnt suggest a soccer ball. not sure about climbing gear but just make sure theres nothing sharp that can cause serious damage
regardless of what you ride, the risk is pretty much the same

The baby Ninja has a pop-off pillion seat. I wouldn't be surprised if someone makes a cool tailbag-type piece of luggage for it that just snaps into the seat locking mechanism.
Otherwise, nothing wrong with a good, old-fashioned tank bag. Get a magnetic one, straps suck. Personally, I don't like riding with a backpack. It's not a safety thing, it's more about comfort, if you have proper riding gear, your jacket is bulky enough as is.
I have a 46 litre pop-off Givi top box on my 1250 Bandit. Ugly? Yes. Kickass? You bet. When I also use the Givi panniers, I can cart one crapload of groceries.

If you carrying alot of stuff, get a duffle bag and one of those bungie cord spider nets, just secure it on the snatch pad. That's what I do.

Well, a motorcycle is a vehicle and it's for recreation, so I can't argue with that.

Ha I was thinking of getting that, but I should probably be good before I can pull something like that off. Plus I have a sport bike, not a cruiser... less fitting.

I rode 2 up into bc with a tent, 2 sleeping bags and a duffle bag strapped to the back. And my bike is just a single 650. Just be careful it's not going to get in your way and that it's secure! Congrats on getting a bike!!

Hey... does your Ninja have the tank-whistle sound? My ex had one, it would let out this weird whistling sound as the gas tank equalised pressure. You get used to it after a while.

Honestly, I haven't taken it above 80km/hr yet. We have 3 Ninja's at our house, none of 250, 600 (?) and 750... never heard any of them complain or talk about a tank whistle sound.

You don't have it then. It happens when the bike is turned off, sometimes long after it's been running. I'd be having dinner or something, and I'd hear this high-pitched whistle coming from the attached garage. Probably related to temperature changes, changing the air pressure inside the tank.
Edit: Some guy youtubed the sound coming out of his.
It was so much fun when I'd occasionally ride the 250 to work, it's pretty much the opposite end of the spectrum from the Bandit. You can split lanes like a mofo on a light bike like that. I really miss that little bike.

I have a couple of honda CBR's (one 600rr and the other is the original hurricane). For luggage I have soft Ogio tail and saddlebags.
For commuting around, I have this bag on my back seat.

It's a pretty cool bag and folds down nicely when not in use.
