Default Thank you CP

So it is my father's birthday today and as many of you know, he passed away a few years ago from cancer at a young age. CP was absolutely incredible to me in that time and to this day I get so much love and support and messages asking how things are from so many posters.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for caring and being so appreciative. I am an Oilers fan but CP has treated me like gold since I joined here 5-6 years ago.

I just wanted to share how the posters here collectively as a whole are incredible. Kudos to you all.

Sorry about your loss Oilfan81. Cancer is a bitch. My grandpa was as strong as an ox and would walk 2 hours every day despite being 57. He was always eating right and exercising and then bam cancer hits and he's dead 6 months later. Really puts things in perspective.

It's very cruel what cancer does to people. Noone should have to edure that!

Going on 11 years since my father passed away from Colon Cancer.

Be strong OILFAN#81! Time does heal some of the pain.

Sorry to hear about that and yes it most certainly does put things in perspective.

I lost both parents and my wife's mother to cancer. I take much better care of myself to end the family trend. A brother-in-law has a form of cancer that gives you five years from diagnosis, on average. He's 1.5 years in. I give generously to cancer research.

After losing three family members(two aunts and an uncle whom I was really close to) to it over the last 18 month, I know what you are going through, its an awful way for people to die.

Take care of yourself.

Your tolerance is admirable, as a Riders fan I understand how annoying it can be on this board from time to time when you cheer for the opposing team.

But the good posters do out weigh the bad, so it is worth sticking around and I am glad you have.

Yeah my dad died back in '08 of liver cancer. He was 69. Just like puckluck's grandpa, my dad was in great shape. Retired when he was 63. Went to the gym every day. Ate well, frequent check ups... really took care of himself, because both his parents died of heart problems. Then bam! Gets diagnosed with liver cancer in September, gone in May. So yeah, I totally get where you're coming from Oilfan. 3 year later, it still stays in the forefront of my mind.

Been campaigning for Movember pretty hard this year despite my crappy moustache lol. It's been fun, and is also a good way for me to personally remember my dad.

This year has been a bit trying for me since I lost my grandmother to lung cancer (she did not smoke a day in her life), and almost lost my dad to colon cancer. Like Teh_Bandwagoner, I've been doing my part for Movember as well. I've decided that this year my money is better serve in going to cancer research instead of gifts. So I've told my friends not to get me anything.

It's kind of a reflective year for me. I was surprised how quickly tragedies like this make me grow up, take more risks, and appreciate life more.

Sorry for your loss and I hope you are able to look back with warmth on your Dad's anniversary. I lost my Mom to cancer, December 23 1998. It made Christmas an incredibly sad time for me. Over the years though I have been able to concentrate more on the special times we shared, rather than the loss I endured.

Take care.

My Dad was diagnosed with Liver Cancer earlier this year. Thankfully they caught it early and was able to resect it. But those months were seriously some of the worse days I've ever had. We had a potential report of it being malignant and my heart just sank. I thought every day that month what my life would be without my Dad and still do.

I lost my Grandma from Liver Cancer also. They misdiagnosed and she was gone a few months later. I lost my Grandpa from Melanoma three years ago, and almost my Grandma from the same cancer.

Cancer really is a horrible disease. It's important for all of us to eat right, exercise and to get regular checkups. But sometimes it's just crappy genetics... what can you do but love those around you the most.

I'm really sorry for your loss Oilfan, and everyone else out there that has lost a loved one to some horrible disease. It's not fair, but that's life. We as a society has made significant advances medically ridding ourselves of other previous deadly diseases... so I'll be optimistic we can do the same for Cancer.

Thanks for all the words and all the stories. It truly is a horrible disease. Like I and others said, we have to look at all the good times we shared rather then the final moments. Sorry to all those who have had to deal with cancer. Nobody can ever take away the memories.

I don't find it annoying at all. Friendly trash talk is what it should be and I realize what board I am on.

I'm not going to get into the cancer stories (unfortunately I have a number of them as well). I just wanted to chime in and say "you're welcome" to Oilfan!

In all honestly though when I first started lurking here you were posting a team Canada game (possibly at the WJC) and I was following along. I actually remember thinking that was pretty cool for those of us working to be able to do so....and even though you were/are a greaser fan it was a cool thing to do!

Of course I also enjoyed all of the good times talking with you in the CPHL. Sure you have a horrible choice of pro teams to follow, but overall you're a good guy and good to have around the board.

Lol thanks Victor. CPHL was fun when I was in it. I think we had the most traded out of anyone. And yeah I believe it was an Olympic game.

Sorry to hear about your father.

I've been lucky enough to have no family members or friends pass away. My grandpa and grandma passed away when I was younger, but those were natural causes.

Now I just heard from my mom today that my Grandpa isn't doing very good right now and probably doesn't have much time left. It's tough thinking about it, even though you know before that he probably won't be around for much longer so you try and prepare yourself.

My grandpa hasn't been himself for a few years and has just been a miserable person, but when my mom told me I didn't think of the past few years, just more of the years when I was younger and all the good times we had and it definitely made me cry.

Anyways again sorry about your father
