Default Xbox 360 repair?

Has anybody had any experience repairing the console locally? Mine's out of warranty and has stopped reading disc's. When I searched on google, just seemed to find some sketchy sites.

Is it even worth it to repair, or better off getting the newer slim console?

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a dirty lens in my DVD drive. I bought a repair toolkit and opened it up, cleaned it and it worked fine. A few years later I had to buy a slim though as my 360 stopped sending a video signal to my TV.

Have you tried calling Microsoft support to see how much it costs to repair it?

I wouldn't even bother repairing it, the 360 is quite cheap these days.

Buy a new one. I know going through Microsoft would cost $130, don't know about locally but it would probably be about the same. You can get a new console or $200.

Probably about 40$ to buy a new disk drive. It's pretty easy to replace, if it has RROD it only costs about $10 in materials to fix. If you havent had the RROD you might want to do the fix while the xbox is open and the disk drive is being switched out.

I posted this in another thread: http://www.killasoft.org/

Guy's name is Dan, he's in Silver Springs. He fixed my PS3 (YLOD), but he also does Xbox 360s and can fix/replace DVD drives. Prices are reasonable, he knows his stuff, and he gives you a warranty. Highly recommended.
