Default Where to travel Dec 15-27 on a $1500 budget?

My request to carry over my vacation time into 2012 was denied, so I'm in a 'use it or lose it' situation. To maximize travel days I can take Dec 15-27.
Where would you recommend to go, if your budget was sub $1500? I'm open to all suggestions, traveling with me will be 1-2 guys. TIA!

I hope TIA doesn't mean what I think it means.

If you are talking about 13 days of food and accomodation along with travel for $1500, you are not talking about very many places. Assuming you are frugal, you could maybe get a bargain hotel and some grocery store food and live off of $100/day. This would leave you with a $200 to spend on transportation to your place of choice and to spend on entertainment. You could probably go to Edmonton or Great Falls or something like that. I doubt you could get to the Okanogan, as accomodation is more expensive there, and your gas bill would be much higher.

Keep in mind that travelling virtually anywhere in that time frame is going to cost more (hotels/flights etc) than the non-holiday season.

I don't know if you're looking at using the entire 15-27 for travel time, or that's just the available days. But if you're looking at a 2 week vacation for under $1500, you may want to consider taking the vacation time as a pay out instead.

Unless of course you're planning on splitting gas and one hotel room with your travel buddies.

The Far North. Build yourself an igloo -- free accommodations -- and feed off of the remains left behind by polar bears.

Sorry I should have been more clear, I was hoping to find something in the 1500 range all inclusive ie. Mexico, Jamacia etc in between those dates for about 7-10 10days (haven't been anywhere tropical before) or just flight/hotel and then budget 1000 for food & spending money somewhere in Europe.
Just looking for ideas for some places to check out with the boys!

Looking at iTravel2000, there are 8 night holidays to Mexico in 4 star resorts that come in at around $1100 after tax. What's wrong with one of those?

Not sure if you golf or what you like to do on vacations, but WestJet just came out with some sale flights today. It would probably be feasible to go to Palm Springs with the budget you have in mind.

What do you do in Punta Cana though? Outside of laying on the beach and the usual run of the mill tropical excursions, what else is there?

Me? I got married, but I don't recommend that.

On a serious note: The same could be said about any all-inclusive in Mexico, Jamacia etc, as the OP alluded to...

If you can afford a bit more, Thailand. I was there for 5 weeks, partied my ass off and spent 1200. So if you can scrounge up another couple hundy for a ticket. 500 bucks would be a pile for 2 weeks.

maybe off topic, i dont think an employer can legally tell you to "use or it lose it" .. they would have to at the least pay it out to you, whether they wanted to or not, its accrued vacation time you have earned.

That's true. Amazing how few companies understand this. My large international one continually says the same thing even though I point out their errors.

That said, they can force you to take it whenever they want, so perhaps that's this situation.
