Default Going to Denver

Add me to the many folk that come to the off topic forum for travel advice. A friend and I are going to Denver in December for the Pats and Broncos (Should be an easy Patriots win). But I'll be out there for a week and other than the Pats game, and going to see the Capitals against the Avs, we have nothing more planned. What are some good things to do in/around Denver?
Thanks, CP

Not sure if you want to go this far, but I really like Boulder. Lots of restaurants and microbreweries.

Richard Sandoval's restaurants are excellent (IMO, anyway) and if I was going to Denver I'd make it a point to go to at least one or two of the one's he has in the area.

There's some great bars on Market Street (near the Pepsi Center). Maloney's Tavern is probably my favourite, tons of specials, etc.

I lived in Denver for 4 years. If you want a fun night out go down to LODO(Lower down town) the warehouse area that Coors feild is in. Lots of great bars and restaurants. Boulder is a nice trip, really only about a 30 min drive. hang out in LODO before the hockey game, if you want to walk a bit I used to walk to the games but you are looking at a 20 minute walk. There is a bus that goes through the middle of down town the 16th street pedestrian mall that is free. Give it a ride to check things out.

The Denver Art Museum id pretty cool if you like that sort of stuff.

I lived there ten years ago so things are a little foggy. Can't remeber the name of alot of the bars I went to or if they are even there anymore or not.

There are also some good bars and food in Washington park by the governors mansion. Most of the other things I would have suggested are only summer type things.

Skiing id=s great of course in Vail, but that is about a 2 hour drive. A little closer would be A-Basin, Keystone, or Brecken Ridge.

There is also the Coors Brewery Tour in golden, just a 20 minute drive. There is good food, shopping and bars in Larimer Square as well.

Just trying to remeber everything. There is a six flags in Denver but pretty sure it is closed in the winter.

Check out his web site:

http://www.lodo.org/

I spent most of my weekend evenings in LODO, just a great place to hang out at night.

Go Pats! When we were stuck at Denver Intl. for 14 hours during a stopover we went Bass Pro Shops/Outdoor World and this outdoor shopping mall which is less than 20 minutes from the airport. If that's your thing I'd give it a visit.

DU Hockey is out of town that weekend unfortunately.

Denver's Museum of Nature and Science is outstanding.

Ahh the sink. I bet they've forgotten about my lifetime ban by now.

As far as LODO goes it's fun if you're in your early twenties, have a faux hawk and wear a pea coat. Overpriced drinks and dbag central. If you're a younger person looking to hook up with women of questionable moral fibre it's a good call though, typical downtown nightlife. I'd suggest Three Kings on south Broadway. Live bands on the weekends and cheap beer.

I'd avoid that Sandoval restaurant. Fancy fusion Mexican food when you can just go drive down Federal and find a million great authentic places. Just pick anything with Spanish only signage. Make sure to get hot green chili. CityPub in DTC has the best burgers and green chili you'll find.

Coors brewery is a good quick trip, plus you get some free booze at the end.

You just didn't go to the right places in LODO. I worked there for 4 years, in the heart of it. My parking place was in the Coors feild lot. There are many places that cater to older professionals. Since most of LODO is occupied by professional offices, it does cater to older people.

I went down to Denver back in '01 to see playoff game the year they won the cup. We went to the 6 flags and the aquarium and they were both really cool and decently close. Don't remember a whole lot other than those 3 things though sorry!

Oh. I have no clue then. Maybe fight hobos and gutter rats on 16th street for a few bucks a round?

I was there a couple weeks ago and TAG restaurant was one of the better meals I've had in any city. Really good. Maybe a bit pricy for a road trip with buddies.

The area around there had a tonne of restaurants
