Default Receiver help

Holy crap - I've written this post twice now and lost it.

Basically just looking for advice on a receiver.

I bought this one http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/...edb00ba0a5en02

But am willing to replace it if I didn't get the right one. Or didn't get one that could have been better for the same price.

I have 4 speakers
2 devices, SAT/XBOX
It has a USB input, I haven't found it . . . But it's somewhere.

I havent watched a DVD in probably 7 years, I download everything. Media/Music stremed through xbox and PC. Might change that and get a new media player at some point, but don't know about Blue Rays with the coming death of CD's will DVD media be next? Plus I don't rent them anyway so what's the point?

Anyway, I'm not going to write too much because I've written two longs posts already and lost them and I pi$$ed right off.

Suggestions greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Whoops,

Just found the Home Theatre Thread - looking through it - but I guess my question is still applicable.

Thanks!

i have a denon 3311. i guess my first question is wrt your price point...that will determine alot.

whenever i have denon questions or issues...i use this page from batpig: http://batpigworld.com/fadq.html

you might also like the 1612 because it has audyssey multieq which will help to correct your room dynamics. there is a post about your receiver here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=21139753
and a general discussion about all new denons (xx12) here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1334369

essentially, you have a decent, basic 5.1 receiver. if you are streaming...use the xbox. if you are not committed to the bluray platform...i would take the money that you would have spent on the bluray player and put it towards a higher end receiver.

i should also mention that the more you spend on a receiver, the more you should be aware of the speakers you have. if you have a kick butt receiver, but crappy speakers...you should be looking to invest in the speakers.

just my 2 cents!

I like the Denon lineup, and IMO the 1312 is a decent no-frills amp. However the 1612 is on sale for $20 more at Best Buy until the 24th, which is a heck of a deal.

But why are you only running 4 speakers?

What is the difference between these two receivers - I'm in the market for something similar.

600 watts vs 350 watts

(upgrades to the 1612)
Audyssy room EQ
ipod display
2 additional composite ins
usb media capable (mp3/wma/aac)
3 additional dolby codecs (HD audio)

IMO worth the extra $20 for the room eq (if your speakers can utilize it) extra power, and HD audio alone.

Thanks! Older speakers, I'll worry about those next, my current receiver wasn't working properly and didn't have HDMI so I was using red/whites

Yeah, I wasn't thinking I was needing a blue ray - but just wondered what else I would ever hook up an HDMI with? And my only thoughts was if I got a different media player - because the xbox isn't all that great. I think there's better streaming options out there.

Sorry, I meant I have 5 speakers, don't have the .1 because I live in a townhouse neighbor probably wouldn't appreciate a sub, I don't watch enough quality content to justify more than 5. or 5.1 less the sub issue.

Going to probably upgrade to the 1612 this week - thanks for that tip!
