Default Fun things to do in Phoenix

Hey yall.
So a few of your fellow CPers are planning the something-ith annual Flames trip and this year we're gonna wind up the trip in Phoenix.

We're currently debating whether we should stay in Phoenix for a few days afterwards and want to know if anyone has any suggestions on fun things to do there.

And yes, I am aware you can golf in Phoenix.
Most of us aren't really golfers, so that's not gonna be reason enough to stay.

Your suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks

I was only in Pheonix for 1 day on my way to the Grand Canyon. And it was 1 week after the iPad came out in the US, before they arrived in Canada so I spent most of that day playing with my new toy.

However, I did manage to visit the Pheonix botanical garden, which while it may sound boring, has 150 different species of cactus. I didn't know there were that many species!! Also, we went to Cooperstown, Alice Cooper's restaurant.

We passed Camelback Mountain, which I'm told has several nice hiking trails to the top. And there are 67 night clubs for drinking and dancing.

Definitely make sure you go for Mexican somewheres...can't remember names but there's lots of great joints in town, just ask whats a recommended one I guess.

Hands down, best Mexican food I've ever had. And I've been to Mexico.

If you go to Cooperstown, you can walk a few blocks to where the Diamondbacks play and go through their gift shop and kind of look around.

Head out ot Cave Creek. It's like a hippy town with lots of little hippy shops, and there is a wicked Mexican place there.

Frank Lloyd Wright began building this desert masterpiece in 1937 as his personal winter home, studio, and architectural campus. Located on the beautiful Sonoran desert in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains in northeast Scottsdale, the site offers a broad range of guided public tours. Visitors experience firsthand Wright’s brilliant ability to integrate indoor and outdoor spaces.

my wife and i went to phoenix for the first time this past spring - we had a blast!!!

we caught 2 yotes games, went to sedona, went to the grand canyon and i was dragged to the outlet malls (outlets at anthem...i think that's what it was called)

i definitely recommend taking in the grand canyon - it was awesome. i didn't expect to stay the entire day - but we did... and if we had more time we would have gone back for a second day. sedona was beautiful - we spent an entire day there

i was hoping to take in some spring training games and maybe tour a ball field, but we didn't have enough time

a good guy to pm is Bouw N Arrow.... he lives in phoenix

For clubs, check out American Junkie in Scottsdale (it's the bar Brett Sutter got arrested at last year).

You wouldn't believe some of the scenery in there. Great music / atmosphere too.

If you have a good chunk of time to kill, I highly recommend checking out the Musical Instrument Museum located in NE Phoenix.

I went with my family about 8 months ago and couldn't believe how interesting it was. We're not really museum people, per se, but we are into music, so when we heard about this brand new museum that was receiving good reviews we gave it a try.

We arrived in the early afternoon and ended up being ushered out at closing time; we were there almost 5 hours, and didn't want to leave! Believe it or not, I wouldn't mind returning at some point -- I don't think I can say that about any other museum I've been to.

Here are some reviews: http://maps.google.ca/maps/place?cid...L5HApAS-5vXhDA

Head out east to the Superstition Mountains. The scenery of the Sonora desert is pretty amazing. I never get sick of looking at the Saguaros.

If you're bored, take a tour of Chase Field. If you like baseball you won't be disapointed.

I spend 4 to 5 months a year in Phoenix (Goodyear actually). As others have mentioned, the Grand Canyon and Sedona are great. Also, Tombstone is a nice visit - lots of history (it's about a 2 hour drive south of Phoenix).

There's some good hiking in the Superstition mountains.

Sedona is a fav of mine.

Not sure if the Biosphere is still open.
