Question Best Cash Exchange Rates?

Simple question - I am going to LV to play some poker. My roll is in CDN $. What is the best place to exchange several thousand $ in cash? Bank? Florex (or whatever it's called)? Anybody know if you can exchange it in LV at preferential rates?

Do you have time to set up a US funds account before you go? A few people I go with get their bankroll that way. I've always just used my debit card when I get there. I've had good results with the bank rates that way, albeit they may not be the best.

Best rate in Calgary is usually at Calforex, or through a US dollar bank account...

Vlad, either your bank or a forex retail place will likely give you better rates than exchanging it in Vegas. Check out Calforex they're on Stephen Avenue. With large enough sums they'll even negotiate.

Calforex also has a Chinook Centre branch if Downtown isn't convenient.

How much is "large enough" that they negotiated with you, out of curiosity? I've never tried that, but I will next time.

Except they charge a fee. I imagine with the cash roll Vlad is exchanging the $2.50 or $3 or whatever they charge will be miniscule, but for smaller ($100-250) the fee often negates the difference between banks and Calforex, or at least negates the fee and the time it takes to get to a Calforex... that being said, I still do the exchange at Calforex since I'd rather pay them the extra than my bank.

In fairness, I posted Calforex at 2:03, and the next two posts are both timed 2:04, so they probably hadn't seen my post when they replied.

Know anyone that works at a bank? Sometimes staff get a pretty nice rate, usually between the buy/sell rate.

I used to work at a bank and the staff rate is great. However, it'll be tough to get someone to do the exchange for a large sum in case their boss asks about it.

Many banks have a card that removes the calforex exchange fee - just ask for a manager.

Check with ING -- I've heard they give near-bank exchange rates.

Do you mean ING's physical branch down by the court house?

Just go to calforex DT if you work DT, otherwise go to their location on the 2nd floor of Chinook if you're down South My wife is in commercial banking with one of the big banks and we go to calforex. They are cheaper than even the staff rate for anything over $300. For Joe Ruskie, it's no contest
