I've done the math, and I'll definitely be able to buy out Turco towards the end of the season without it being much of a big deal so it's not a problem to me that he has a second season on his contract.

I get another decent 3rd line player as well in this deal, and some cheese room in which to possibly move out other players if the deal's right.

Detroit gets a slight upgrade on their backup (76 vs 75) and also some flexibility on their end cheese wise and getting rid of the headache of an 8 million dollar anchor.

Win Win for the pair of us.

Its weird not seeing Turco on my roster and his glaring 8 million dollar salary. I re-signed him as a UFA a couple season's ago after he signed a contract to play for the Hawks. He has been the longest serving Red Wing who I acquired for Johnathan Cheechoo the year after he won the rocket.

Brian Bickell is a guy I have been trying to clear money for to call up to the big club since the season began. losing him to get Turco off the books is well worth it for me but I totally expect Marty to announce his retirement now.

I get a couple prospects who could be flipped for free or bought out later to free up a spot. Was also getting up tight to the cheese max so it gives both teams some flexibility in that area.

Wings are now looking to add some 3rd - 4th line players for prospects and or picks.
