I bought that 500 GB HD last year for closer to $60. It's been solid for me.

well that was an impulse buy. But for $40, no big deal. Amazing how much the prices have come down. The first external hard drive I bought was 120gb and cost ~$380.

So my laptop for school has been a POS over the past week.. just started my masters program, got two years of solid school ahead of me.. very tempted to upgrade on this one they are selling today.
Any laptop builders that can assess this for school and not gaming purposes? I guess basically as long as it turns on and doesn't crash good to go..
As far as price goes I doubt I will find one much cheaper.

For specs- not too bad. Pretty solid I would say. Do yourself a favour- go into Walmart and have a look at it; they have one on display.
I'm not one for ashetics on a computer; but holy crap that thing is ugly!

I have this computer. Not sure if it's exactly the same specs... but I bought an Inspiron 15 about a year and a half ago and it's been awesome for me. Not the best if you're big into gaming... Starcraft 2 has to be played at the lowest graphic settings, and I am skeptical it will work for Diablo 3, but other than that I like it alot.
It's not ugly

You are correct. At that time there were decent looking laptops. Not now. I was going to buy one recently- it was down to $380. Took one look and ran away.

I went to Wal Mart and checked it out, I actually didn't mind the look... it is pretty basic but all I need is a reliable school lap top, I got my desk top for gaming..
I bought it and hope it serves me well over the next few years. Thanks for the help guys.

I just picked up an acer from bestbuy with a quad core, 6 gigs ram and 640gig hd for $379. Laptops are dirt cheap right now.

There's a "Riders fan" joke in there somewhere.... but it's too early.
They have Kingston 4 GB USB drives on for $5 each today. I have seen those sell quick. I grabbed 4- it's nice to have "disposable" USB drives around.

Picked up the Beats Solo HD headphones this morning, these things are still going for $249 at Bestbuy so picking them up for $149 is a steal.

For any of you guys that got the Solo Beats (and love them), what was the best pair you'd previously heard?
I ask because I'd heard a ton of negative stuff about them when compared to the entry-level stuff from companies like Audio-Technica and Beyerdynamic, but they look sweet and I'm looking for a set of on/over-ears that are more portable than my ATH-M50s.
