Wow just drove past this on deerfoot.... west side near the Airport trail construction on 96th Ave I think? lots of fire trucks, it appears to be a big grass fire. Could barely see for a stretch on deerfoot as the smoke was so dense.
At about 8 PM this evening, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a large grass fire in the Harvest Hills area West of Deerfoot Trail. Specialised Wildland fire fighting apparatus called Bush Buggies were used to fight the fire. Firefighting operations were complicated by access difficulties, gusty winds and the fact that the fire occurred at night. Approximately 100 Acres of grassland were involved, no buildings were affected, and no injuries occurred during the incident.
