Ottawa native Dan Aykroyd tells the Los Angeles Times there will be a third "Ghostbusters" film starring himself and original cast members Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. Aykroyd says production could be under way by winter.

I think a 're-make' would have been better, without the original cast.
These guys are too old for the roles. Get ready for a bunch of "I'm too old for this" kind of jokes in the movie.

you think they would have learned after the fiasco that was part 2. The original is a classic. Leave it at that.

I'll hold judgment until I see who wrote the script and whose directing it... But if it sucks we should hold them commercially liable.
The next instalment is penned by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who also write for the TV series "The Office."
Ramis might direct instead of writing.

I wonder if Rick Moranis can be lured out of retirement for this?

If Ramis directs I think it will be good.

I don't think Moranis retired out of lack of opportunity. He was the most mainstream of the SCTV guys for many years. That carries a lot of weight.
My recollection was that he just got tired of the BS.

Funny I was just thinking about this the other day, a modern day Ghostbusters would be awesome with updated special effects..
But I agree, they need a new cast, just like Star Trek! The best movie of the century..

I read somewhere that it would feature the original cast and a young team as well.

I found it.

The details of story are still in play, but Aykroyd said he's hoping for a five-member "new generation" team with several female members. "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."....Aykroyd mentioned two names, Alyssa Milano (who is a voice in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" video game) and Eliza Dushku. "I think they're amazing," he said. "And I'm excited about the whole idea of getting this done."

Yeah, movies were invented in 2001. They were silent until late 2003.

A fiasco would be Blues Brothers 2000.... Ghostbusters 2 is still a movie I love, though not as much as the first one obviously.
Unfortunatly due to the stretch of time inbetween movies, I'm leery about what Ghostbusters 3 will be.... don't have much faith in ol' Aykroyd anymore.

It seems like just about everything that Bill Murray has touched from Groundhog Day onward has been pure gold, while Ramis hasn't been involved in anything good since Groundhog Day.
This movie could be great, but I have a strong feeling it's not going to be.
