Monster Threads
I have to say I don't like this new trend of having gigantic threads for long running stories or events like training camp. Well, I guess I don't mind the threads but the fact that individual news stories about those events are moved into the giant thread. It makes it difficult to find discussion about specific events.
The example that made me start this thread is the news of the 14 cuts being moved to the training camp thread. I wanted to read opinions on who was cut, but now, instead of going to thread on the topic, I have to read through discussion about Matt Stajan or other topics to find it.
Not a big deal, just a thought that might make the site more user friendly.

I agree, I like having a general training camp thread, but id like there to be seperate threads when players get sent down, etc.

The fact that a whack of roster cuts was just placed in a massive thread, and the separate thread was locked... was a stupid move.
News is news, and we don't need things buried in a monster long thread.

I was the one who merged the two threads.
Just to give you my train of thought, the cuts were already announced in the training camp thread and being discussed for many minutes before a new thread popped up. So then we had two separate threads talking about the same subject. Since it was already being talked about in the training camp thread first, I decided to merge the two threads and keep all discussion in one spot. They are very much related anyways.
But I do see your point, and I don't entirely disagree. But then do we have separate threads for when one player is sent down or released? Two players? Three? Five? Kind of a grey area in that regard.
If the general consensus is that we have a new thread for every training camp cut then that is fine with me. Just thought I'd respond with what I did and what the reasoning was behind it.

I think it would help if the thread title was updated with any news.

Yeah these are always tough calls - I too prefer shorter, many threads as opposed to wading through a big long one to try and find the actual news.
But it is a grey area.

Put me in the camp that would prefer smaller threads providing new information rather than mega sized threads.

Fotze brings up a good point. (In spite of not really making sense with his random missing words.)
If people want multiple shorter threads, people will also have to work harder at keeping them on topic.

Fotze tends to Monster Thread... I don't know how he could have made himself clearer Ken.

To be fair, no matter how small the thread, thats still going to be a problem.

FWIW, I think monster threads are more prone to off-topic stuff because their scope becomes far too watered down.
The monster Jets thread is just annoying as a result. Useful discussion ended weeks ago, but we get an update if Evander Kane farts while walking down Broadway.
OTOH, a thread for each cut, or each group of cuts is more likely to result in a greater number of moronic "OMG THEY SHOULD HAVE CUT STAJAN INSTEAD!!!1" posts because, god knows, nobody will be aware of some people's opinion that <insert hated player here> sucks unless they post it in every thread.
It is a subjective call, but I think that the ultimate decision on a merger into an omnibus thread should be based on the scope of an action. Winnipeg releases new uniforms? New thread. Article praising Dustin Byfuglien's great-grandmother's sister's best friend's new puppy? Merge. Jay Feaster talks about how Roman Horak is performing in camp, merge to camp thread. Half the roster of the Abbotsford Heat gets sent down in one go? New thread. IMO, of course.
