Thanks

Honestly, unless you are looking for something small and portable, it almost makes a lot more sense to get a bigger drive.

Check Dell Day of deals - Yesterday they had a 3TB drive for $109, and they are bound to have something similar over the remaining 10 days of the sale (nothing today though)

From memory express, a 500GB drive would be at least $40 and an enclosure would be in the $20-$30 range.

Lacie has a pretty good reputation for being durable.

I snagged one of these:

It's a bit pricey on a per GB basis but it is tiny. I just archive photos on one and toss it in the safety deposit box until I get more photos to swap a different drive in.

I have the 3TB drive, two 1TB my passports from WD and a Seagate FreeAgent 250GB.

By far my favorites are the my passports. Easy to run off a laptop, hold a ton.

But for my desktop, the 3TB is the way to go. Holds everything!

Lol..except their power supplies don't

Edit: maybe not an issue if you're looking for a bus powered laptop drive. But I've owned 5 LaCie drives (picture a VERY tall Mac Mini), and all but 2 had failed power supplies eventually.
