Looks like nobody posted about the first game in this series, but game two tonight should be good for the Jays--not to take things lightly, but on paper this looks like the sort of game where Halliday should go eight innings with three or four hits. How will he rebound after that disasterous inning against Baltimore...
Vernon Wells looked a lot better yesterday. They were talking about how he has been working on speeding up his swing--maybe it is finally back in form.

Jays up 3-1 in the 9th, Halladay working on the CG.
edit: game over, Jays win. Is it just me or did the fans seem unusually loud tonight?

Fans did seem loud tonight but I'm guessing it was just mic placement or something. I can't imagine why the crowd would be up for a KC team.
Man does KC stink. No pop in that lineup at all - I hope some team rescues Sweeny from that joke of a team.
VW looked bad again tonight. Dude needs to get on track with Zaun out.

That Zach Greinke... Still the least Run support by an Incredible margin of any pitcher (he averages like 0.6 or close to that runs per game when he strarts.

It's funny how the same people that support the small market teams of the NHL refer to their brethren in baseball as "A joke of a team". It's just odd to hear Flames fans talking like Larry Brooks.
It doesn't bother me, I'm not a big baseball fan, but I am familiar with the plight of the Royals. It's not much different from what the Flames were going through a few years back with the season ticket drive to save the team.

Well, I guess Tony Pena thinks the Royals suck as bad as everyone else does...........he's quit.
Can't say I blame him, that's a terrible team.
Pena's seen enough........waves bye-bye

The Royals have to be one of the younger teams out there, I think in a few years they will be greatly improved. I mean if you check the amount of 25 year old's and younger on the staff......
Jeremy Affeldt 25
Zack Greinke 21
Leo Nunez 21(that kid looked 12 yeaterday)
John Cuk 24
Ruben Gotay 22
Mark Teahen 23
David DeJesus 25
A very YOUNG team, I think with a lot of potential in the future. For now I can't dispute that they stink.

Hey - don't get me wrong. I fully understand why they are a joke of the team. The MLB system is fundamentally flawed and makes it very hard for a market like KC to compete. But the fact is the team on the field is a joke. With a few exceptions they are a AAA level team. Not unlike some of the Flames teams we had around here. They were jokes too. Not entirely their fault, just like its not KC's fault but the team that's on the field for them is what it is.
MLB needs to fix itself but won't because in my view they only care about the major markets. As long as Boston, Chicago, New York, LA are happy they'll let Toronto, KC, and others suffer and then point to Oakland and say "SEE - small market teams CAN compete" instead of fixing what's wrong with MLB.
So I guess ultimately its MLB that's a joke.

I agree that MLB has major flaws in their economic system and nothing shows this more then the Yanks spending more in lux. tax then the D-rays spend on the entire payroll. However, there are some owners in MLB who will not spend money, sure they might not have the deep pockets of George S. but the KC owner is known to be cheap. The A's were just sold to the son of the guy who started gap (I believe) so there is lots of talk around Oakland that if they get a new stadium then the free spending will start. Its unfortunate because we as MLB fans have seen some teams like KC, CIN, MIL, DET, PITTS, etc. suck for several years.

Agreed..........I should have clarified my post a bit.
I meant to say they suck.....right now.
You're defintiley correct, they do have some potential there. Question is, will they hold on to them long enough to have a good team in a few years, or are they just going to be a farm team for everybody else?

Getaway day today for the Royals so its a matinee affair.
7-4 the score. Pete Walker got the start for the Jays which I found strange. Who's spot did he talk in the order? Bush?
Hillebrand with a 3 run bomb and 4 RBI so far. Looks like VW is having a better day at the dish so far too.

Bush started the game, Walker came in for relief in the 4th inning.

Schoenwenweiss gives up back-to-back homers in the 7th, and it's 9-7 for the Royals right now. Royals are batting at .402 today. Their season average is about .212 thus far. Not a great performance by Bush or by the bullpen.

Great comeback for the Jays! The batters completely bailed out the hitters there. Solid job by Batista, shutting them down in the ninth. And what an outing for Hillenbrand: 3 for 3, plus one BB, 3 runs and 4 RBIs.

Jays win 12-9. Batista with the W. The core of the jays did well today.
Koskie went 2 for 5 with a hr and 2 RBIS.
Hillenbrand went 3 for 3 with a 3 run homerun.
Hinske went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI
Wells went 2 for 4 as well.

Yeah Batista got the job done. Came in with runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs and got the KC guy to pop out to end the inning. He pitched an ok 9th I feel, got a double play to end the game on a 3ball 1strike pitch.
