				 Cooking Class

So, as a gift, I want to get my wife some cooking classes. Kind of a fun thing we can do together. Anyone take one in Calgary that you can reccomend?

I don't have any other recommendations other than standing out of reach when you tell her you have bought cooking classes "for fun". I wish you all the best.

I did a class at "Cookbook Company Cooks" on 1thAve SW. Was good times; you essentially learn recipes and cook them with a group of ~8-10 people and chat and drink wine while everyone prepares the dinner.

It isn't a cooking class, but I have always wanted to do a wine pairing class. I think they offer stuff like that at the willow park liquor store.

I've done one from the Cookbook Company Co. as well (their Thai cooking course) with my wife and we really enjoyed it. If you go with them make sure it's a "hands-on" course where you're actually cooking; some of their courses are more of a demonstration-style.

Me and my wife did the Itallian class at SAIT. Very hands on and of course you get to keep the recipes of what you do.
They had a number of different classes you could choose from.

I've gone to the Atco Gas Blue Flame Grill downtown. I only did the lunch and learn over the noon hour, but they also offer night classes over the weekend. It changes every month so you can get something from Thai, Pizza, Italian, Chineese, etc... Check out the websitehttp://www.atcoblueflamekitchen.com/...se%20Calendar/ |

I did a burgers and beer class there, it was really well done. The chef we had was great. He mentioned that he also did some of the couples courses there, so I'd imagine those would be pretty good. I believe his name was Pierre.

Do any of these cooking classes have recipes that are allergy friendly? I'd love to do one with my fiance (I do all the cooking) but she's allergic to a lot of standard ingredients (anything with gluten/corn).

Earlier this year, I took cooking classes through the CBE. Although they were at a time that worked well with my schedule, I'll never go back. The instructor was not helpful and often spoke to me in a condensing manner when I asked a question. I didn't learn anything and for the money I spent, the quality of food was very poor.

Another nod to The Cookbook Company. Great couples-thing, and it was fun.

Allergies can be a challenge in classes like this since they often have set menus. If in doubt from the course description, you can always call the company and ask or see if anything can be done.

I want to take cooking classes too. I was thinking of going to SAIT, but I haven't looked into anything yet. I want to learn Italian, Southern US, Greek styles of cooking.
For those who went to what ever class, how much did it cost?

Also, are these classes all couples classes? I just want to go by myself.

I'd just need to know what the recipes were ahead of time. I have all the replacement ingredients for the most part.

Follow the reek of petula oil down to your local health food store, they will likely have classes on how to cook what passes for food in the world of bean curd patties.
