Default Football/Hockey Pools Draft vs Auction

Over the last 4 years I've been doing serpentine drafts with a bunch of guys for Football and Hockey pools and having a good time.

With our Hockey Pool coming up I am trying to convince the guys that an auction draft would be a refreshing change with a whole new range of strategic options.

For those who aren't familiar...an auction pool works like this. You have $X to build your team, when its your turn you nominate a player and start the bidding until the auction is over...then the next player nominates a player to auction (which you could bid on as well)...you go until your roster is full and you have to manage your funds.

Anyone out there tried it?

Tried it? There's pretty much no circumstance that would make me join a serpentine draft league again.

Auctions are better in almost every way. You can build your team exactly how you want it. You have have any player you want (as long as you're ready to pay).

They take a bit longer and I suppose it could be a bit daunting if you play with guys that really don't know what they're doing.

Completed an NFL draft on ESPN auction style, first one I have ever done, and truthfully, wasn't all that into it after the first ten rounds. It come to the point where there we people going for a dollar to the owner who nominated the player. Was rather boring having to wait 45 seconds for each player to not get bid on, ending up with the owner who selected him

Yeah I think that after the highly desired players are auctioned off it naturally turns into a serpintine draft where you get who you nominate.

Would never go back to a serpintine draft again. It's alot of fun bidding up players you don't wan't, nominating guys strategically, and throwing up some late round gems that people completely forget about.
