Default Office Chairs & Hardwood Floors - Solution

I've been frustrated with my hardwood floors and my office chair.. I can't use the chair right on the floor as it scratches (the wheels don't turn very well on smooth surfaces, meant for carpets I assume), and I had one of those big plastic mats but I find it moves a lot and stuff gets underneath it and I've ended up scratching the floor terribly just with the movement of the mat and the dust that gets in between..

So damage is already done, but wanted to not make it worse.. I was going to get a carpet chunk to put there but then I need something to protect the floor from the carpet, etc.

So I checked out princess auto, and they have these casters:

http://www.princessauto.com/all-seas...el-stem-caster

The stems are longer but on my chair they still fit fine (ymmv), but the wheels are nice and big so they distribute the weight enough that they don't dent or mar the floor, and they're grippy so they roll rather than sliding. Seem to work really well, now I can get rid of my mat and it'll be easier to clean my office floor now too!

There are ones that are actually intended for office chairs:

But they ship UPS to Canada and Princess Auto was less than half.

Anyway just wanted to share in case someone else had a home office with hardwood in it.

I have some special wheels on my chair in my home office with hardwood and I just got them from Staples. Not sure if they are the right ones, but I've been okay for the last year and a half.

Check Staples?

Staples has a mat that looks like laminate flooring that might do the trick.

Yeah Staples has these ones:

Which are better, but the narrow wheel and small diameter still makes me concerned that I'll get grooves in the hardwood.

The ones I got from Princess Auto:

Will have a larger surface area, but I read a few people saying the Staples ones worked for them as well.

I can vouch for the Staples wheels on an engineered hardwood floor. I was really skeptical at first, but they work perfectly. My hardwood is bamboo, if that helps.
