Icon38 Flyers Season Update

Quick Rant: Abrupt end to an amazing season. About quarter way through the season I realized the opportunity I had and decided to go for it and upgraded as much as I can. Had a really solid team and I'm proud of what I accomplished this year.

I set out to achieve these goals at the start of the year:
[Check] Making the playoffs is first and foremost
[Check] Challenge for the division crown
[Fail, 98.26] Get the cap space up to 100 million dollar through weekly/monthly winnings
[Check] Have a player in the top 10 league scoring
[Check] Have a player win a major award, Cam Ward wins the Vernon

So potentially 4 out of 5 is great. Made the playoffs and won two rounds, also won the division by a large number of points. I got close to 100 million but released too many players so didn't get all the way there. Jeff Carter came to my team late in the season and finished at top of the league, Alexander Semin was also close to top 10 finishing 13th. I see Cam Ward, Mark Streit, Jeff Carter challenging for top goalie, top defenseman, MVP respectively so potential major award as well.

Onto what the future holds...
  • I will stay on as Flyers GM, won't be active as last year though.
  • Coach Cory Clouston will also be back.
  • So far I have $10 mill in bonus money for sponsorships/league wins.

    Following players are 90-100% moving:
    • Jeff Carter - Agreed to move to Toronto
    • Ilya Kovalchuk - Agreed to move to Florida
    • Alexander Semin - Agreed to move to Detroit
    • Jason Pominville - Agreed to move to Anaheim
    • Lee Stempniak - Agreed to move to Nye York (Rangers)
    • Andrej Meszaros Agreed to move to New York (Rangers)
    • Christain Ehrhoff - Agreed to move to Montreal
    • Ian White - Agreed to move to Phoenix
    • Dan Hamhuis- Agreed to move to Columbus
    • Dennis Wideman- Agreed to move to San Jose
    • Tomas Fleishmann- Agreed to move to Detroit

Following Players are 70% Moving:
  • Martin St.Louis - Agreed to move to Washington

Following players are 40-50% moving:
  • Scott Nichol - Released
  • Steve Begin - Released
  • David Legwand - Agreed to move to Toronto
  • Brooks Orpik- Agreed to move to Dallas
  • Henrik Sedin - Agreed to move to Pittsburgh

Players are very likely not moving:
  • Ryan Getzlaf
  • Ryan Suter
  • Cam Ward
  • Kyle Brodziak

So Almost everyone will move besides the 3 franchise players at each position. I want your youth and picks. So buy your stars from me.

Inquire and bid quickly, PM works the best. Also if anyone has any questions regarding my decisions over the year or questions realting to my next years plans or why I pissed you off, go ahead and ask.

Go Flyers Go

13 games by Jeff Carter, I'm not so sure I would be claiming his Top 10 scoring and owning his MVP honours

You've done great things with this team but I'm not sure Carter is on any of your many accomplishments

I did say I acquired him late in the season and also mention Semin wasn't far out of top 10 in league scoring (13th).

Only mentioning Carter as a MVP candidate, since he's finishing the year on my club, he can potentially win the award as a Flyer. Overall I had the 2nd best regular season offence in the league (it was first for majority of the year till a late season slump). It was distributed among three lines instead of one line always tearing it up.

Martin St.Louis has taken his talents to Washington.

Tomas Flieschmann, Marcus Johanssen and Brandon Burlon

for

Martin St. Louis

The key for me in this deal is Johanssen, he was very hard to get from Washington. I think he will center NHL caps second line next year and could be in for a nice season. Flieschmann, seems to be healthy and should produce at the same amount he did last year.

Update: Andrej Meszaros gone to New York Rangers.

To New York: Andrej Meszaros
To Philadelphia: Kris Versteeg, Steve Bernier, 3rd 2012

More of a lateral move picking up a sim forward in Versteeg. Bernier should be able to play some 3rd to 4th line minutes next year.

Thanks for the quick trade, felt Meszaros had a great season with the NHL Flyers ... Looking for this fellow to be a top 2 dman.

As for Bernier, he had an off season.... Was looking to unload cap space.

Versteeg had a great season in CPHL...

Ehrhoff and newly acquired Versteeg, Bernier move to Montreal.

To Philly: Brent Burns, Mikko Koivu
To Montreal: Kris Versteeg, Christain Ehrhoff, Steve Bernier, Stl 1st 2011

After dealing Carter, I was gonna focus on bringing in another center to play behind Getzlaf and Koivu is perfect for that role. Burns not as good as Ehrhoff does save me bit of cap.

Update: Jason Pominville off to Anaheim

To Philadelphia: David Rundblad, Jerry D Amigo, Col 2011 1st
To Anaheim: Jason Pominville, 2.75 cold cash.

The tear down continues. Rundblad is a very good prospect and happy to add him to my D stable.

Update: Semin and Kovalchuk Gone!

To Philadelphia: Brandon Dubinsky, Peter Holland, Alexander Radulov
To Detroit: Alexander Semin, Col 2nd 2011

Dubinsky is a player Ive liked for awhile so when took a chance on him. Radulov and 2nd are there to clear up a previous misunderstanding.

To Philadelphia: Flo 2nd 2011, Curtis Hamilton, Josh Harding, Kevin Connauton, Brian Day
To Florida: Ilya Kovalchuk, 5.5 mill cold cash

I wanted a top 5 pick and now have one. Plus couple other good prospects as well. harding will fight for the backup spot with Gustavsson.

Another Update: Sedins unite

To Philadelphia: Nikloi Kulemin, Calvin De Haan, Phi 1st 2011, Phi 2nd 2012, Pit 2nd 2012
To Pittsburgh: Henrik Sedin, 5.5 mill

This rids me of the last big ticket player, even though I sent a boatload of cash, I still save about 3 mill and get a comptent player in return and lotsa picks. Its the season of picks and added another late rounder.

Another Update: Stempniak and White Gone.

To Philadelphia: Alexander Vasyunov
To NY Rangers: Lee Stempniak

Easy deal, Vasu is a talented forward but I'm hoping he gets out of Devils organization and onto some other place where he can play.

To Philadelphia: Zach Dalpe, Christain Thomas
To Phoenix: Ian White

The Stasche is now in phoenix. Get couple of prospect I didn't know much about but upon reading about them they are really good prospects.

Update: 2nd overall moved.

To Philadelphia: Dan Humhuis, Guillaume Latendresse, LA 1st 2011, Cal 1st 2011
To Columbus: Flo 1st 2011, Andre Petterson, Johan Harju

This is all about adding assets, I added 4 with 1 here. Don't care for Andre or Johan. I now have 4 picks in the 20s, that will get me draft fill.

Update

To Detroit: Tomas Fleishmann
To Philadelphia: Charlie Coyle

I didn't know much bout Charlie Coyle till I started reading about him and I was quite impressed by his attributes and went after him. I've had Flash before and he's never really clocked for me and I only acquired him to trade him later.

To Dallas: Brooks Orpik
To Philadelphia: Ladislav Smid, 2nd Edm 2012

This was anothter cost cutting move. Smid is a decent dman who can play 3rd pair and collection of 2012 2nd continues.
