aving grown up in Kelowna, Dustin Sylvester is used to beginning the hockey season under the summer sun, but never before have the stakes been greater. The five-foot-eight, 180-pound Sylvester signed a one-year deal last week with the Abbotsford Heat, minor league affiliate of the Calgary Flames, and is in Penticton this week for the Canucks Young Stars Tournament in hopes of landing an NHL deal in the future.

This is really good. Even more offense for the Heat.
Is this an NHL one-year deal or an ATO?
I found it interesting that he grew up a Flames fan.
The Kootenay Ice are basically the Flames main scouting pipeline haha. That's Reinhart, Leach, Negrin, Sylvester, Brett Sutter, Brad Cole, Riley Armstrong, Jason Jaffray, Adam Cracknell, Brennan Evans, James Martin (tryout), Nigel Dawes, and Jarrett Stoll (even though he didn't want to play for us).
Not to mention coach McGill.

Article says its a one year deal with the heat and says he hopes to make it a NHL contract... so imagine its a 1 year AHL deal.

Well he looked pretty good last night, even with the "Theo" comparisons, I get it he's small. The puck seemed to follow him around which is a good sign and even though being Oiler sized he had good compete and didnt lose too many battles.

I think he was on a line with Ferland and besides the goal, they had some good shifts where they controlled the play in Vancouver's end.

Agree he really stood out in the game against the Canucks. Definitely one of the bright spots and I'm glad he's been rewarded with an AHL contract.

Great snipe for sure.
I was not too impressed with puck handling and puck possession though. He'll need to work on that.
Face wise, he looks like Marty St. Louis he's got a long way to go to be that type of player..
