I went for a couple years. I was really disappointed that there was nowhere one could eat barbecue. You could watch the competitors cooking, and the judges eating, but there was nowhere to eat real barbecue yourself.

I wonder if things have changed in that regard.

I have the same impressions ^. I talked to some guys there and it has to do with them not being licensed for food. I was pretty disappointed actually.

Looks like Holy Smoke BBQ and Big T's BBQ Smokehouse will be doing concessions. Not great, but at least it's something.

^^^Holy Smoke is delicious!

Big T's...well, it's pretty weak. Just a step above Tony Roma's.

I wandered down there to see what was going on. Holy crap.. I can't believe the line to Big T's. I am not saying there is anything wrong with it, but I could have walked to the NW and been served faster than that line.

Which makes me wonder, is Big T's the same as Memphis Blues in Vancouver? The menus seem the same, but Memphis Blues is pretty scuzzy looking, which is charming in its own way.

Anyway, there was a short line for some of the competitors stuff. We managed some of BubbaQ's (sp?) and it was pretty tasty stuff. Disappointing that it wasn't more like Sun and Salsa where sampling was easier.

Sun and Salsa is a good time. Never tried this BBQ one, it's not as good?

Well, it was like one of the earlier posters said about all of those competitors bbq'ing and having all of that awesome food in your midst, but not really having a great chance to sample the stuff. They did put out the competitions's products one at a time at a table, so you'd line up and get to try something, but I don't think it was as convenient as being able to walk over to one of the competitor's areas and getting samples. Maybe there were reasons for the way they did it, and maybe due to Big T's and Holy Smoke being vendors there?

Anyway, I didn't pay anything to go there, so... I guess I don't have any right to bitch about it. It was a nice day to be out and about, so that was really the motivation for being near there anyway.. so between the parade, some dim sum, and salivating over BBQ it was a decent day.
