Step 1: What the hell are you talking about?

Deoxyribonucleic Acid, for example... sounds impressive, right? But have you ever seen what happens if you put something in acid? It dissolves! If we had all this acid in our cells, we'd all dissolve! So much for the Theory of Evolution, Check MATE! |

If there's one piece of advice I could give you it would be to evaluate the kids based on their own merit, not by how hard their parents lobby you for them to make the team. It's sad, but youth organized sports can be so... "political".

I usually just go by the size of the tatas.
Biggest is best, smallest is worst.

Reverse order for dudes and you'll have a good team

If, after the above, you have:

   A) Too many players, then repeat step one and remove the less-good players

   B) Too few players, then repeat step one and allow just enough fatties on to get to the number of players needed.

I'll assume the cheque is in the mail.

haha. at least give us a sport to start with what factors do you want in your players? (toughness, speed, vertical jump, puck handling, ball control, 3 point shooting, longest drive, arm strength, personality, physical shape (are they in shape), ability to think on thier feet, teamwork, passing, shooting accuracy, shooting power, pitch speed, batting average, endurance, attitude, height....)
 so many factors
then you could rate them based on whatever it is you want to on a scale of 1 to 3/5/10.
the best way would be to weigh the different factors with a multiplier. so say speed would be a 3 and passing a 2. you could then multiply the factor by the rank and add them up for each player (divide at the end if you want) and see which ones are best.

 we need more info

Take them to the woods at midnight. Those that find the parking lot by 6 am make the cut. Rinse/repeat (with different woods) until your have your 5, 9, 11, 12 or 20 players (depending on your sport).

Well. I've done hundreds of these for youth soccer at almost every level. But I need more information in order to really help you.
