Umbrella
With all this rain lately it has me looking for a new quality umbrella. I'm tired of shelling out 20 bucks at a time to get one that breaks a rod after a couple uses. I want to get one as compact as possible and very sturdy.
So I turn to the collective brilliance that is CP. What umbrellas are you using out there? What can you recommend?

I usually just get one of the collapsable umbrellas at Eddie Bauer.

The free one my company gave me...Going on 5 years with it.
Might be the only good thing my company has done for me...That and not blocking CP with the firewall.

George: Who buys an umbrella anyway? You can get them for free at the coffee shop in those metal cans.
Jerry: Those belong to people.

I may go on a Umbrella breaking rampage if any more people walk into me because they are too busy looking at the ground with the Umbrella in their face.

Calgarians need to learn some umbrella etiquette. It doesn't rain often enough in Calgary so people walk around with their umbrellas as though oblivious to other people.
1. No golf umbrellas unless you are on a golf course. Seriously, how huge are you?
2. Tilt it away from your face so you can still see... this should be pretty easy.
3. Lift when passing the non-umbrellaed. Don't stab them in the eye just because they don't have one. Don't make them walk around you and your huge golf umbrella.
/Calgary umbrella rant.
Oh yeah and 4. When shaking off your umbrella after entering a store/transit/etc. don't shake them off onto other people. You are not a wet dog, you should know better.

The other day, my favorite collapsible umbrella that I've been using for over 10 years broke one of the metal spokes that hold one corner of the umbrella up. I was really unhappy with this and to make it worse, it broke at a joint between two pieces that fold together so welding wasn't possible. I also lost another metal wire that held the spokes together when closed. I replaced that piece with a paperclip and I held the two broken metal pieces and the joint together with office clips and hockey tape. Good as new! I will be really sad when this one breaks again. Maybe one day, every single spoke will be made of office clips and hockey tape.

London Fog. Served me well for 10 years. Be sure to dry it out when you bring it inside.

I was just thinking this afternoon how frickin' dangerous it is for tall people on days like this. I'm 6'6, and that's about the level the sharp points on umbrellas are when carried by others.

notwithstanding what was said earlier in the thread, since I have started using golf umbrellas exclusively on rainy days, there have been zero issues with an umbrella breaking. I find the wind tunnels in downtown areas can be really bad during a thunderstorm and I've seen them wreck umbrellas of other people. Golf umbrellas are a sturdier build.
