Default Mayan Riviera, Cozumel, Playa Del Carmen and Cancun in path of hurricane

Looks to be a direct hit to the big Carribean tourist areas in the Yucatan.

The storm is expected to be a category 3 storm at landfall.

They just rebuilt the Cancun beaches last year from Hurricane Wilma in 2006

At least I'm not there now, but heading to PDC in early Nov.

I saw on the news people being interviewed "I'm not going anywhere, this isn't a big deal". I don't know what I'd do, but probably get out of Dodge ASAP. Riding out a hurricane in Mexico is a lot different than Florida or Texas.

What would everyone else do if you were there now?

Honestly, I'd probably ride it out as well considering the letdown of coming back home would hurt bad. If it's not too bad, it would make for some crazy partying upon passing over. However, if I was going to relax or something, there's no way I'd want to be around and would likely call the agency up to get me to Cuba or something.

From the article i posted in the OP.

Quote:
But Wendy Powers, a 49-year-old from Louisiana who was taking a stroll at a shopping mall with two other friends, said she hadn’t heard anything about the storm until a reporter told her about it. Still, she said she wasn’t worried.
“We had Katrina and we survived it,” Powers said. “If the one coming here is a category 1 or 2, we could have a beach party.”
Two things that jump out. She had not even heard about it and that she was going to ride it out on the beach.

^^ I saw that quote (and the one from the Glasgow guy) and wondered if these people were as dumb as they sound.

The issue with 'riding it out' is that there might not be electricity or water for three days or more - this is Mexico! When Wilma hit, the airport had to close for two or three days, and hotels had closed and tourists had to stay at shelters. I remember how people had to drive to Merida for flights -- and taxis were charging $300 or more for the drive.
