Winnipegpuck?

There have been tons of Winnipeg Jets forums springing up as of late. Unfortunately, not many of them have had much success. Some Jets fans and I had an idea. we wanted to model our forum after Calgarypuck, since I personally believe this is the best unofficial NHL team forum in the NHL (I've seen Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, Anaheim, Chicago, and Detroit).

I wanted permission to possibly use the name Winnipegpuck. Instead of categories like "Fire on Ice" and "The Back Burner", I pan to call the Jets category "The Cockpit" and the AHL/prospects category something like "Cadettes." I am not completely tech saavy, but we think with a lot of effort, this can become the best unofficial forum about the NHL Jets. I have a lot of spare time for the next two weeks, so I wanted to work on getting this thing up and running.

I hope Calgarypuck gives us permission to use the Winnipegpuck name. If not, I completely understand, and will change it.

Go for it. Granted, thats not my permission to give, for that you gotta ask 'The Don' or Bingo.

But, I'd point out that websites and Forums arent about names and formats, they're about the people who contribute to them. Whatever difficulties other forums have had will likely persist regardless of name or format if those posters who created the issue are so inclined.

Like Locke said, it's the people that join and contribute to your forums that will make it "kick ass."

You have my support. I'm originally from Brandon and the Hawks and Jets were my first NHL game, when I was a kid. I love the Flames, but the Jets have a special place in my heart.

Why would you need permission to use Winnipegpuck name? I think it's cool of you for asking, but I don't think CP would own the right to every ****puck name.

The Cockpit is a perfect name by the way, for the FOI section.

The only Winnipeg based hockey forum that has had a considerable amount of traffic the last year or two is Jetsowner.com. However, the owner wants to shut it down, rather than turning it into an unofficial Winnipeg Jets hockey forum, despite offers from long time members to keep it running.

If you're really serious about getting this off the ground, I would be more than happy to extend any help that I can.

I guess first thing would be a proper name (domain name). Then worry about category section names, etc, etc.

It's been a while since I organized and helped run some forums, but I'm sure it would all come back to me once I jumped back into it.

Yes, I am experimenting with it to see what I can do. I'll be working on it this week. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. If the admin has any problem with the name, I will change it. Mainly I just want it to look presentable and professional, but nothing too extravagant.

I still have much love for the Flames. Considering that the divisional realignment will prevent any type of real rivalry developing between the teams, i probably will continue to cheer for Calgary rather than Vancouver or Edmonton.

Winnipeg will likely be in the Central Division with Minnesota, St.Louis, Chicago, Dallas, Columbus, and Nashville.

winnipuck.com has a way better ring to it. Winnipegpuck sounds awkward for some reason.

CalgaryPuck is great because of the people, not because of the name, layout, or format.

It honestly sounds like you have little idea how ######edly hard it is to:
a) attract a user base and keep it
b) run a decently large forum &/or related infrastructure.

If there is other competition already up and running, you're at best, going to split the available userbase until one can establish itself above the others
