Credit Card Issue
Hey guys:
Recently I purchased a few things from a company in the US on my credit card. A few days later, my card had several unauthorized payments from an online poker site. I do a few internet purchases, so I thought it could be because of one of those. Then, I received the sales receipt from these guys in the mail, and the receipt had my full credit card number, the expiry date and the security number on it. You could see it right through the envelope. Is this not illegal? What should I do about this?

Call your credit card company immediately. Talk it through with them.

Yeah, call the credit card company... I think they'll look into it for you. I'd also track down the poker company and see if you can talk to them about it.

Call your cc company and get a new cc...immediately to avoid other unauthorized purchases. They will send you a form to fill out and you have to list the purchases that were not made by you. They should credit the card within 2-3 billing cycles and then they will do an investigation. But call ASAP.

We have done that, and the investigation is on. More of my concern right now, is the sales receipt that I received from that company. It had all the CC details, including the security number on the back. I deal with these guys a lot, so I mention something to them about not doing that?

My wifes card # was stolen and she had a bunch of online charges show up. Those were quickly reversed by mastercard (within a week) and she got a new card.
Call your card company asap!

Who are "these guys" that you mention?

I think he's already taken care of the contacting the credit card company part... He's asking about the laws (and/or practices) governing the treatment of a customer's credit card information.
ie: They had his full CC number, expiry date and security number on the receipt, and it was visible through the envelope that it was mailed in.
Unfortunately, I don't have a concrete legal answer for you, but I would have to think that they should be required to use safer measures than that.

I think putting more than the last 5 digits on the receipt isn't something that they should be doing:

Sorry the company in the US I purchase a few things through. I just think its wrong to put all of your credit card details on a sales receipt instead of XXXX XXXX. Especially the security number

How about telling us this company's name so this doesn't happen to anyone else please.
