So, I'm assuming that you went to a doctor to get it set and splinted right?
Other then that, there's not much you can do except for mild painkillers and ice.
Oh and in before the this thread is useless without pictures.

Ummm, see a doctor. If it swells up too much, you could lose circulation to it, and a dead falling off finger might be more like it. Worst case scenario, they cut the ring off, and you get it fixed by a jeweler.
I have a permanently bowed finger from not taking proper care of a displaced fracture, and going all hero mode. It sucks huge for certain things.... especially golf. Get it fixed, and get the ring off.

I was making the assumption that he had seen a doctor. Nobody would be silly enough to believe that if they ice down a broken finger that every thing was going to be ok.
Especially if the ring is below the break.
Even though having your finger fall off in a restaurant in front of dozens of people would be an awesome prank.

After crushing my fingers last week in a garage door mishap, Advil helps along with ice to cut the swelling. Make sure your hand is elevated above your heart as much as possible as the blood flow won't be as heavy to the injury. It'll be a pain in the arse to get the ring off the finger, but it is necessary to do otherwise you'll possibly/probably lose the finger.

I got my ring off and came up with some very colorful sayings that any sailor would be proud of, but no I have yet to see a doctor. I will do that tomorrow morning, I'm not going to sit 6 hours at a hospital tonight.
Right now it's iced and sitting above my head, I took a 3 Advil that should get me through the night.

Dude, just go to an urgent care centre like the Sheldon Chumir. You won't wait forever. Might see some colorful folks though.
The longer you wait to get it set the worse its gonna be.

This thread would make so much more sense if it was started from an iphone in a waiting room...

Hospitals won't be busy around now, especially being a Monday night. Tomorrow morning, ER's will be full of whiny babies who don't want to go to work because they've got a cough.

I do agree that the longer that you wait the more it hurts to set, if you wait until tomorrow that fingers going to feel like your getting shot when they set it.
I waited for 24 hours on a broken ankle because I was convinced that it was sprained and not broken, and the doctor basically crapped on me, jumped up on the emergency room table, grabbed my foot and gave it a massive yank after he looked at the x-ray.
When I woke up 20 minutes later, I thought that I was lucky that I didn't piss my pants.

This is what sucking it up did to my hand:
The only possible good thing that came out of it, was being put on Quato's call list to start the reactor.

Pretty sure it isn't good to wait with a broken finger. At least get it set right and in a splint. Dealing with the pain is one thing, but having it all mangled (was it??) is another thing.

I broke a knuckle back in 2004 playing ball. I made a diving catch but my right pinky finger drove into a little bump in the grass as I slid on my chest. The "cup" part of the knuckle broke off causing the knuckle to clamp shut. They had to inset a Kirschner wire (or K-Wire) right through my finger and made a sort of traction cast. - K-wires - Kirschner, or 'K' wires are thin metal rods that are passed across the broken knuckle bones. These hold the break in place until it is healed, usually three weeks later. The wires are usually left with a short length exposed at the skin, and can be removed with very little discomfort by simply pulling them out with special pliers. The wires need to be kept clean while they are in place, as bacteria could otherwise track to the fracture site to cause a bone infection - this is very hard to then treat and could lead to serious consequences
The worst part of the whole expierence was the insertion of the K-wire. They actually just use a regular drill and run that sucker right though your finger, the drill bit is the actual K-wire. Once through they just cut the drill bit and curve the ends with pliers. However when they began drilling I soon discovered they didn't use enough freezing agent and about a third of the way through I thought my hand exploded. I ripped the drill out of the doctors hand and almost knocked him out with a left hook. They immediatly jammed a needle full under my fingernail and pumped me full of freezing. I was told they didn't understand how I didn't pass out from the pain.
Ahh good times.

Yeah, if I recall way back then, that is pretty much how it looked when I broke it. Except mine was my ring finger and pinky. Just not letting it heal right, and taking the splint off a week later so I could play ball made it heal on that weird angle. It is a shame, and a lifelong regret, that I will never know the joy, of delivering a shocker.

Practical Advice:
1. See a doctor asap.
2. Use a different finger for nose picking.
3. Get better.
