He's only a 63 OV player, but at 4 million net cost this season, that isn't that bad. Maybe he'll have some chemistry with the Canes and be worth closer to his 7 million dollar cap hit for the following season.

This was a deal that I needed to get done.

Moving cap isn't something I liked doing but was necessary to get Poni out of Edmonton. With the number of players we have and not having the luxury of extra cheese that the Oilers had last season we needed to move out contracts. Fischer, Frolov, Horcoff and Cole were the first to go with Poni being the final piece to move out.

With the space that was added through this deal we are now able to sign Joe Corvo, giving us a number 1 dman. With his NHL trade to Boston I am optimistic that he will have a good year on a very good Bruins team.
