Default What is this worth? Hockey stick bench and table.

So when I was younger there was a guy at the Saddledome who would collect broken sticks and turn them into usable furniture. My parents bought a bench and a small coffee table and I am just curious if these are worth anything? There are some big name players' sticks on there including Steve Yzerman, Ray Bourque, Al McInnis, Mike Vernon, just to name a few.

If Pawn Stars has taught me anything, those sticks probably would've been worth quite a bit more if they were left unmolested, and not modified into furniture. I would think the value is mostly sentimental.

I'm not sure what the value is personally, but let me call my friend who's an expert in piece of sh** hockey sticks turned into furniture.

In all honesty, I could imagine that a set of broken sticks from the 89 cup year turned into furniture might actually be worth quite a bit.

Since an item like that is pretty one of kind though, you're not going to get an estimate from anyone. Try posting on craigslist and see what peopel are willing to pay.

Yeah. Take some sharp pictures, add clever copy, and with some luck I think you might do okay on this.

There is a bunch of these around...the gentleman who did them would sell the furniture to some people, but then give it away to others. As to a value, it is a very narrow band of people who might like such a thing...I'd be tempted to to the kijiji thing and see what you get...or see what one could get at a collectors show.

How would you be able to authenticate the fact that the sticks were from 89?

Side question, what usually happens to broken sticks? They just end up in the garabage. Can I go down to the Dome right now and collect a bunch of them? There must be a ton of them by the time the season is done. I imagine quite a few get broken in practice as well.

Not sure who said they were from 89, anyways I asked hoping for a ballpark number but figured I would get that it depends on how much someone is willing to pay

They're probably worth keeping, but not much else.

Even as interesting conversation pieces, I suspect you'd have a hard time finding a home for them.

Would love to see a pic or two though.

where does one go to become an expert in this field? is there a provincial exam that needs to be written? a journeyman's certificate?

I actually haven't tried selling them. I might be developing the basement and will have to clear some clutter. I will post pics when I have a bit of time.

Like most memorabilia, it's worth whatever someone would give to you for it. There's not going to be a set number for you anywhere.

Even things like Beckett Magazine for hockey cards for instance, are going to give you a number, but that's not quite what people will pay, per say.

Having met you I can confirm that what your parents bought you is actually a barbie doll coffee table. You might use it as some sort of footstool though!
