Default Job Searching

I am fairly new to Calgary, I've searched job board sites still can't find anything.
Does anyone know of any place that is hiring? I'm looking for anything fulltime, decent pay - I just have my highschool. Or any good temp agencies?

When asking for a job, I would change your name so people don't think you're an alcoholic...

Hit the pavement and carpet bomb entire areas with resumes.

I know that there are youth job agencies out there, but for the life of me, I can't remember them (assuming you're pretty fresh out of high school).

You haven't given us much to work with.

What kind of job are you looking for?

What's your experience in?

What's your skill set.

What's with the recent influx of job inquires on CP? I've been searching for a job for the past 2 months, and haven't asked the CP community. Not to be rude but usually job posting sites are better served for jobs than a calgary flames message board.... but then again CP is extremely versatile and convenient.

1) Email/Fax/Mail resume/cover letter
2) Phone the company immediately after sending an application package. I can't stress this enough . . . work your ass off to get someone (anyone) on the phone. Be prepared for an impromptu interview.

If you follow those steps, thoroughly, you will see results. It is vital to get people on the phone or in front of you though.

Not sure what you have been doing for 5 years since high school, which is what determines what jobs you might have a chance at, that said busing/dishwashing is your best bet as an entry level 'need a job right now' option, in Vancouver that means craigslist under hospitality.

Depending on what your looking for, you want to contact every temp and perm employment firm in this city so at the very least you can get your resume into their database.

If your looking for labor intensive or junior jobs, Jobshop.ca is probably your destination.

If your experienced but general then Monster

If you have a more specific drilling point then workopolis.

If you can give us some idea of what kind of work your looking for it would be really helpful in giving you more specific advice.

Well I work in a hotel for 4 years night auditor / front desk and I use to waitress on the side. other then that i havent had much experience in highschool I only worked at Rona. So all i really know as of right now is customer service. I'd be more than glad to go back to school and mange the two. But in order to do that I need an income.

Definately Jobshops.com

Instead of carpet bombing resumes, its a more effective use of your time to focus on companies that you are interested, then go in and try to talk your way into a interview based on research that you do on the company first.

Its always tougher finding a job when you don't have one, and if your desparate you might accept the first one that comes along.

You are a bit limited because of your education level and your experience level.

It does sound like your experience is in the hospitality industry. With Stampede coming up you should have next to no trouble finding at least a temporary gig.

When you drop off resume's are you getting the name of the hiring manager so that you can try to followup with them later? You really need to make yourself standout especially when your competiting with a lot of people.
