Default Help IDing and Value of Scott Scaler 29er XC HT Mountain Bike

hey guys I've been looking for a HT 29er for a bit and just came across this ad today, where the guy is on his way to meet me:

scott scale 29 xc bike new cond size L xL worth 1400 desperate for cash $600 obo 403 439 0093 no emails bike is red not blue

The guy had a pic of the brand new 1500$ one from bowcycle, and he told me that its the red/white model and he doesn't know what year it is either.

Do you guys know what what type of identifiers i can search for on the bike when i see it to try to date it and tell what model?

I have a feeling that this is either a guy that's desperate, has stolen it and just wants some cash, or is trying to play stupid in order to over value it.

He's driving in from Olds right now, so I'll see him in about an hour.

Thanks guys for whatever you can do

Get the serial number off of it and search this database (Canada wide for stolen vehicles and bikes).

Thanks I will check in the morn. It ended up being a 2010 Comp, which is about 850$ if you can find stock. I found a manufacture's parts list and just compared the models

That really sounds stolen. Run the search and don't just take a good deal. Someone had to pay a $500 deductible to replace that bike and is pissed that the thing they saved their hard earned money was stolen.
