You can challenge it based on the date mistake, or go to the LRT station at the exact time tommorrow that the ticket is written and buy a ticket to produce.
Its almost like Time Travel.

I have nothing productive to say to someone who rides the CTrain without paying.

In before 200 people come in telling you to man up and pay the ticket like they would
Hypothetically, you buy a ticket with a credit card (if you can do that? I don't know, don't take the train/bus) so you have some dated proof that shows you bought it. Buy it at a time EARLIER than the ticket, so it looks like you bought it, say, 20 minutes before the time on the ticket and would have had it on you at the time of the infraction.
We all know the right thing is to pay it, but we all also secretly think of ways to get out of 100% justified tickets. The OP admitted its his fault, might as well take the low hanging fruit when you can?

I don't think that would work. Otherwise, anybody who got a ticket could just get off at a station and pick up any of the tickets laying about on the ground.

Think about it
So he gets a ticket from the future, then buys the pass to prevent that future from happening.
Because he's changed the future slightly Judgement Day is pushed back by two years, and John Conner suddenly becomes Justine Conner. Chicks fight dirtier thus she claws out skynets eyes and calls it a skank, thus preventing judgement day and saving billions.
Thus one act saves us all.

You have proof of fare - just scan it, email it to whatever the dept is, along with a brief explanation:
You were wearing 200 layers and couldn't find it at the time, but you found it when you got to work and took off all your layers.
Boom no ticket. Slightly sullied karma.

His ticket is for failing to produce a valid fare. Did he poses a valid fare when asked? Doesn't matter what he comes up with after the fact.

We flatter ourselves when we come up with a workaround, and presume that because we thought of it today, that it hasn't been tried thousands of times before.

As a taxpaying citizen, you're ripping me off when you try to ride the C-Train for free.
Pay the damn ticket, and pay your damn bus fare in the future.

That doesn't mean it hasn't also worked a thousand times.

Thing is it really depends on the judge I believe. Officer can just quash the ticket and re-issue it with the correct date. Or the judge can be p!ssed at the sloppy work of the officer and have it thrown out. Luck of the draw on whether you'll be able to steal money from the tax paying public.

Because traffic court goes in alphabetical order; I often have sat through a number of other cases before mine.
Any time I've seen somebody use this as a defence; it gets pointed out that the ticket says "on or about" for the date.
However I have never seen one 4 days off; usually it is a day or maybe an hour.

So how much is a failure to produce valid fare violation?

No. Transit fares only cover a percentage of Calgary Transit's operating costs. Everyone who uses Calgary Transit without paying their fare is ripping off every Calgary taxpayer and/or screwing themselves out of potential service improvements.
If you're using the service, pay your fare. It's $5.50 per day if you pay full fare (and why would you pay full fare?). I pay more than that on gas and maintenance on my car but that doesn't mean I think it's fine to drive off without paying for my gas or drive around without insurance.
Forget handing out tickets, we should move C-Train enforcement to vigilante justice, if you can't show me proof you've paid your fare, I should get to kick your ass for trying to steal from me.

Since I don't use transit he can use my tax money just this once. I pay for something I don't use and enjoy helping others.

Seriously?
Wow some people are hilarious. Good on the guy for not paying his fare. Why would he? when they only check you once in a blue moon?
If they don't want to hire enough people to check your ticket then that's their problem. They have no problem hiring people to drive a car around giving tickets so they can shove it.
