Default U of C - Optional Courses

Hey guys, from your personal experiences at U of C, which optional courses did you guys find relatively easier than the mandatory elective courses required for your major? I know every time I ask this people say it depends what you are interested in, etc.. but I interested what your guys' experience were. Thanks.

ECON 201/203 (201 is a Mickey Mouse course, 203 is pretty easy).

They still have that astronomy course?

Econ 201/203 are actually great courses to take, I found them extremely easy but some people can't grasp economics if they were hit in the head with a supply/demand graph.

Soci 201 - good by itself plus if the material is even remotely interesting to you it is pretty much the only pre-req for most 300 level Soci courses, so it helps you avoid running out of jr. courses you can take. They are pretty simple, and after you take a couple you realize they are all that way. For me, before I knew it I had almost got enough for a minor.

I'd recommend you take something you're actually interested in. Be it history, cooking, whatever. If you're into it, it's easier and more enjoyable than any droll brain-dead class.

Easy courses for sure, but very boring.

What's your major? What kinds of things are you interested in, lame question but seriously.

I loved Sociology classes. Took 201 and it opened up a lot of 300-level options for me. I've taken four at that level now and if I wasn't a Communications major I would definitely consider doing a degree in Sociology. Fascinating stuff, and I didn't even know I was interested in it until I got to the 300-level.

Give a little more detail on what your degree is and what 200-level options you've already done and I can be a bit more specific.

I agree totally with the "do what you love" sentiments.

My major is Entrepreneurship Business, but all my option classes are like Astronomy, History, Language, etc.

I hate when people ask me why I am taking these and not Business options. First of all, I will take business options, and secondly, because those classes are boring as fata.

I don't go to U of C, but Astronomy was a pretty cool class at MRU. It was pretty easy too.

There is a new "Holocaust History" class I want to take but the thing filled up in like a day, 35 people and 20 people wait listed. Hopefully I can get in next semester.

I have wanted to take that course for a long time, but never came up in a time that wasn't already taken by something important.

Depends who your prof was. 201 was put into coma inducing because the prof only used powerpoint slides, didn't care, and had a horrible voice. 203 wasn't bad...at least the professor seemed to pretend to be interested.

Been a while, but GNST 300 (not sure it even exists anymore) was a breeze, although it's a full year course and has a tutorial. I went twice second semester and got an A. History of the Rolling Stones was excellent, I assume that the Zepplin class is basically the same thing. Dracula in film was a cool course, would have actually been hard but once the Prof (same guy who taught the Sopranos course) realized I was clueless on the whole filmaking component but still showed up and got involved every week he made my life much easier.

Unfortunately you are far too young for the ultimate in easy and awesome courses, the fabled Al Brawn lead KNES classes. Go on a vision quest (aka drink in the woods), write a short essay about the sounds of the river, do a presentation on how awesome skateboarding is, basically do whatever you want just be pumped about it and you've got an A. Just never use staples on anything, it's a violent form of binding pages, use a colorful (can't stress that enough) paperclip. Man do I miss those classes.

Depends on your prof I think. I actually struggled in 300, but got an A+ in 500 with Dr. Ron G.

EDIT: Easy electives:
Any philosophy class with Tatum or Jennings. Bioethics, etc were easy and actually interesting.
Intro computer science (maybe that's mandatory?)
Any music history course
any LWSO (Law and Society) course with Mackay Panos

Any MUHL 309 course. They're repeatable for credit to, so as long as you take a different MUHL 309 offering, you'll be good to go.

Do they still have Rocks for Jocks (Geology, but without the labs) and Scopes for Dopes (Astronomy)?
