Default Well that didn't go as planned

Quote:
A 59-year-old man has been jailed in Gastonia, N.C., on charges of larceny after allegedly robbing an RBC Bank for $1 so he could get health care in prison. Richard James Verone handed a female teller a note demanding the money and claiming that he had a gun, according to the police report.

Verone said he asked for $1 to show that his motives were medical, not monetary, according to news reports. With a growth in his chest, two ruptured disks and no job, Verone hoped a three-year stint in prison would afford him the health care he needed.

But the charge of larceny, not armed robbery, is unlikely to keep Verone behind bars for more than 12 months.

All he has to do is beat somebody up in jail to get another six months. Rinse, repeat.

I'm sure this won't be popular with some, but I feel bad for the guy on some level. He's just looking for medical care anyway that he can get it.

I agree, and it is insane that he has to go this route.

I can't say how I'd act in that situation, but that bank teller is kind of hilariously frazzled. What's with all the lunch talk?

He should have just tried to rob it... Best case scenario he gets a lot of cash and pays for his surgery. Worst case he goes away for 3 years and gets it that way...

I don't think it's free health care, you have the opportunity to work in prison.( didn't read article yet so I may be wrong)

Don't make fun of my retirement plan. The day I turn 65, I'm committing an epic felony, nobody is gonna wanna rape grandpa, they're looking for the young kids with soft hands.

And three squares, T.V. and a free gym membership on the state ain't a bad way to go.

Some people commit crimes just so they can get a free stay. It's essentially a free hotel, as long as you can put up with random shankings and the threat of corn-holing.

Don't be so sure. Lots of crazy fetishes out there. Some felons just may be looking for that grandfather figure that's missing from their lives.
