I'm not sure how current these are.
Speeding 15km/h over limit - $89.00 - 2 Demerits
20km/h over limit - $124.00 - 3 Demerits
25km/h over limit - $150.00 - 3 Demerits
30km/h over limit - $177.00 - 4 Demerits
40km/h over limit - $264.00 - 4 Demerits
50km/h over limit - $351.00 - 6 Demerits
Over 50km/h - Mandatory Court Appearance

Those are right, except there are specific fines for each speed (ie. 1 km/h over is 57, 2 is higher, etc.)

Thanks fredr123. That pdf doesn't mention anything about the court appearance for <50 km/h over the limit. I assume that the court appearance would be required?

so how bad was your speeding ticket - or are you just thinking about speeding?
i am a little surprised that they have a grid that goes down from 10 over. i wonder how often someone gets a ticket for 1 km over?

I got a ticket for 5km over once. The cop was actually just being nice, since I was actually going ~15 over, but I was a broke student driving a 15 year old Ford Tempo rustbucket.
I doubt anyone would ever get a ticket for <10km over, but it gives them some wiggle room to negotiate with people before trial and whatnot.

The question was prompted by a dream, actually. I was pulled over on Crowchild for going 135 in an 80 zone, and my ticket in the dream was $158 and change. So I was curious as to what the actual consequences were. Boy, was I ever dreaming!

Suspension (Not always, I think the max is $2000 fine and 3 month suspension) and fine for 50+ tickets. The 2 instances I know of were;
1. 1 month suspension and $1000 fine, the driver was a habitual speeder on a GDL.
2. 2 week suspension and $650 fine, DL for 10+ years with a few speeding tickets.

I have been pulled over on Crowchild doing 130 in a 60 and I can confirm that it was substantially more expensive than $158...

As mentioned in my previous post, I got dinged for a 70 over the limit ticket, I believe the fines worked out to ~600 and I did not receive any suspension.

I've had an officer give me a break before by reducing my 20 over to 5 over.
I've also been in court where somebody tried to fight the ticket; based on it being "incorrect." The best part was the look on the girl's face when the judge agreed; and found her guilty of the higher speed and gave her the higher fine.

I remember the police used to have some "zero tolerance" campaigns on Deerfoot where they would issue tickets to someone going 101, but these campaigns were publicly announced and I haven't heard of one in a long time. Playground zones are also considered zero tolerance. Other than that I don't think it would happen very often.

I had a cop pull me over after I passed him on deerfoot doing 101. I didnt get a ticket, but he wanted me to prove I owned the vehicle? So I had to show him my finance card from GMAC, the whole thing was rather odd.

I got a ticket for going three over. 53 in a 50.

I'm glad mine was a dream, and there were no consequences. It was weird, I think I got caught with the cops using radar guns on the old pedestrian bridge near the Dalhousie LRT (not the crossing from the LRT station, the old one before that), and I was pulled over somewhere between Sarcee and 53rd. I almost got out of the ticket, somehow, too - but then I woke up.

Huh, I just got a photo radar ticket in the mail. I was heading home west on the #1 back to BC and I guess I sped up a little early coming out of Calgary. I think they've moved their 110K signs to farther out of town to where I was used to ten years ago and me being a creature of habit, didn't pay enough attention.
One thing though, I was able to pay it online. I just hope BC treats the infraction the same way without it being on my record, as they are pretty sticky about speeding tickets.
