Ducks sign Dany Heatley (1yr, $1mil)
Eric Stephens @icemancometh
Does appear to be a potential real match between Ducks and Dany Heatley. Could happen as soon as today.
Stephens is the Ducks beat writer for the Orange Country Register.
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Hearing that there is mutual interest between ANA and Dany Heatley.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a Brad Richards 1 year $2 million type deal here.

Heatley - Getzlaf - Perry
Palmieri - Kesler - Silfverberg
Smith-Pelly - Cogliano - Etem
Beleskey - Thompson - Jackman
...that'll be a hard team to play against.

It would have to be a cheap 1 year deal, Heatley is washed up.

He looked good for Minnesota in the playoffs, and Perry/Getzlaf don't play an extremely fast game. He could be a very good addition/finisher on that line and put up respectable numbers.
Getzlaf/Perry have carried a number of players with less skill than Heatley - so if he's coming in with a "willing to work" attitude, he could very well fill in a gap in Anaheim's depth chart.

Ya, I agree with this. The big problem is he doesn't seem to have the reputation of a hard worker. It would be gamble but Heatley could resurrect his career if he he is given this opportunity and runs with it.

Not true at all. By all accounts his last couple seasons in Minnesota where he was being demoted to the 4th line, Heatley did all that was asked of him without complaint. His hard eork got him some top 6 time when the coach called on him, even if his foot speed dragged him back down.

Ducks or Red Wings, he would benefit from both of those teams.

There is always that one sucker team that thinks they can revitalize a player. Though I suppose if it's a 1 year 1 million contract the risk is very low.

This could be a chance for him to salvage his career, if he actually shows up and puts in a full effort I am sure he would do well there.. then he can suck some team into signing him on a multi year deal after that and mail it in.
edit: can't argue with that low risk type deal.

At that price it's low risk (possibly) high reward for the Ducks.

Even though I can't stand Heatley this is a good gamble for the Ducks.
This has to be the biggest year to year cap hit drop in NHL history?

I like it, the guy can still shoot, he just lost a step.
He will help the PP a bunch, and will enjoy taking passes from Getz.
I am a bit surprised that he didn't sign this deal in Dallas to play with Spezza though.
