Honeymoon ideas.
Ok, so I'm getting married soon and I was assigned one task, and one task only.....to figure out the honeymoon. I've procrastinated for the last 7-8 months, but since it's coming up and I'm getting some heat, I figure it might be time to move on it.
I need two things from the fine people here.
1)Any suggestions on particular places to go? Places to avoid from past experience? Feel free to get specific.
Criteria:
A) Has a beach.
B) Ideally also has some nature (jungle etc) and activities (scuba?) nearby so we don't spend all our time on the beach.
C) Not Mexico.
D) Weather during the time (August/Sept) should be ideal as possible (ie, minimized risk of Hurricanes).
E) Some civilization is welcome, but no tourist traps.
F) We'd be going in late August and probably for about 7-10 days, so while I'd love to go really really far, changes are its not worth it to spend a third of our time on a plane.
2) Where do I look online? Any particular good websites/blogs to suss out some good deals? Ie, besides your typical priceline/travelocity.

This might be a little different...but we did a Sea Kayaking trip in Tofino for our Honeymoon. More adventure, but it was incredible...arranged through the Outdoor Centre at U of C.
Something like this

Not exactly relevant to OP due to his time restriction, but I thought I would post it for others interested in honeymooning.
I Went Thailand last August for a 3 week honeymoon. We stayed in the islands in the Gulf of Thailand (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao) and got great weather. It is rainy season for Phuket and the West Coast but was super sunny for us in the Gulf.
Was an absolute blast, and other than the expensive plane ticket, it was dirt cheap to stay in absolute luxury.
Might not be a place you want to go for only a week, but 2+ weeks it would totally be worth it.

Went to Costa Rica in June a couple years back, was awesome. Went and saw a big volcano there, then swam in the hot pools. We stayed at a Hilton that was all-inclusive at the time but was converting to a spa so we got even better food than normal. Black sand beach was pretty cool too!

Or another one could be Grand Cayman, stopped there on a Cruise and the G/F loved it there...Went and saw a turtle farm which was a good time. Didn't see much else but looked really nice from the drive to and from the cruise ship.

The Dominican fits a lot of your criteria (except for the whole tourist trap thing). Although anytime you bring up Dominican, Jamaica or Cuba people get polarized and either love it or hate it. I hear St. Lucia is unreal.

St. Kitts. A 10 minute walk from the Atlantic to the Caribbean. Former British colony - properly civilized colonials and staff. Cheaper than Bahamas. Food was excellent. There is also some rainforest.

The concern with the Caribbean is hurricanes in the summer.
I love St Lucia and would return in a heartbeat. It has everything you're looking for - but it's hit by hurricanes pretty regularly. I'd recommend Aruba but for the slightly "tourist trap" nature of the island - easy to get away from. Given that, I'd recommend Curacao and/or Bonaire. I don't dive but Bonaire is reknowned for its diving - and the south Dutch islands only rarely get hit by hurricanes (Aruba twice since 1950 I think I heard). Bonaire is so quiet you wouldn't even know that people are really alive there (unless a cruise ship is in port).
I'd pick Curacao out of the three to return to if I had the choice.
Good luck and congrats on the wedding-to-be.
And don't leave the morning after your wedding. I did and it was a killer.
ETA: travel time is likely less than 8 hours depending on connections, so you're there the same afternoon you leave YYC.

I went to Costa Rica in 2005. It has all of your criteria, except I'm not sure how expensive it is these days. We stayed just outside of Liberia, near the beach. It was extremely awesome. Hand-fed monkeys and alligators, my dad got stung by a killer bee. Family fun!

I don't know you or your wife (I swear!), so this may be out to lunch.......
Have you considered New Zealand? My brother and his wife went for 3 weeks and absolutely loved it. There is sun and surf, mountain, and plenty of wilderness.
Frankly, I don't know of anyone that's ever been and didn't absolutely love the place.
BTW - Grats!
Edit: D'Oh! Got an F on this assignment. Failed to read list item F.

+1 for Yasa's idea.
Costa Rica has a booming Eco-Tourism industry. A couple buddies are trying to convince me to go zip-line through the Jungle with them.

Hawaii? I went to Oahu (Waikiki specifically) a couple years ago in September. The weather was really nice and there were a lot of outdoor activities. Waikiki is very touristy though, so Maui might be a possibility as it's apparently a lot less touristy.

Maui is not really any less touristy, and Hawaii is starting to be on the expensive side, as far as island escapes go.
