Default Trunk mounted bike rack advice w/ spoiler

I have a 2005 Subaru Legacy with the factory spoiler.

Does the CP brain trust have any advice on a trunk mounted bike rack that would fit with the spoiler? I've tried the Saris Bones and the Thule Gateway with no luck and I've also scoured the internet. Who knows what I should do?

Sidebar: Yes, I know that I could get a hitch or a roof rack; but I can't commit to that sort of money and I'd like to have the rack interchangeable between two cars.

Pics of similar cars just as a guage:

I saw a trunk rack on a g5 the other day, the SE model (short spoiler), so i think you can use trunk racks on some spoilers. Im hoping so anyway.... =P

Have you tried calling a place like racks unlimited (or something like that).

What about a (the) bike shop - surely someone has some kind of trunknrack

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

I have a Mazda6 hatchback (with a spoiler like yours) that I have a bike rack for. It looks something like this:

The bottom part goes up against the license plate and the top part goes over the spoiler and up against the window. Since mine is a hatchback the top straps go above the rear window where the trunk opens. Works pretty good, although I do recommend putting something in the metal hooks that attach to the trunk. They'll slide around a bit and rub some paint off.

I've been to a few of the bike shops around town as well as Racks Unlimited West. No luck so far with the display models in stock anywhere.

I'm hesitant to special order something that may not work and am looking for suggestions on specific models that have worked. The online vehicle fit guide suggestions haven't worked for the racks currently in stock.

For the Mazda, do you remember the model name?

Mountain Equipment Co-op and Canadian Tire both have similar racks to the Mazda 6 one up there...Think I might take my chances with the MEC one.
This needs to be able to stand up to driving across the country.

Have to looked at Yakima? You can use this tool to check for racks for different makes/models. It lists a couple racks for a 2005 Legacy with a spoiler.

So the only two models that would fit my car (and possibly others with similar spoilers) are the Yakima Quickback and the Saris Guardian. The Saris Bones is very close but still manages to contact the spoiler a bit.

The Quickback is readily available at Racks Unlimited South and The Saris Bones are available at almost any bike shop. (See the guys at The Bike Shop on 11th!!)

The fine folks at Bike Bros. out of Cochrane have been able to order me a Guardian as they have since discontinued the model...but I know for sure that it fits and is the cheapest of the three. One great thing about it is that there is much more clearance between the car and the rack with the Guardian than the Quickback.

Thanks for the help folks and may this somehow help others later on. CP is such a great place for information, hockey related or not.
