Oilers season recap
My team was led by my superstars all season long. It was a little rough off the bat when I took the team over from Cheese, but after making a couple deals the team was very consistent and started to rocket back up the standings to finish 4th in the West and get home ice in round 1 against the rival Flames.
Season leaders were:
Goals:
Mike Fisher (44)
Joe Thornton (41)
Alexei Ponikarovsky (33)
Assists:
Joe Thornton (67)
Mike Fisher (55)
Brian Rafalski (44)
Points:
Joe Thornton (108)
Mike Fisher (99)
Alexander Frolov (69)
Brodeur was fantastic in goal during the regular season, winning 45 games in 72 starts, with a .913 Sv% and 2.63 GAA.
A lot of young guys got to play because of various injuries, and most of them filled in quite nicely, most notably Andrew Bodnarchuk who played in 24 games at about 13 minutes a game.
The first round of the playoffs made me anxious, facing off against Cheese, the guy who taught me the ropes so to speak. He was very helpful when I took over his old team, gave me a lot of pointers and spent a lot of time making sure I was comfortable.
Despite some absolutely atrocious goaltending in games 3, 4, and 5, I was able to win a game 6 in the Saddledome and take game 7 at home 3-2.
The second round didn't go so well. I had a 2-1 lead in the series and proceeded to drop 3 straight to the Blues, including a game 6 overtime game where Manny Legace almost pulled off a win for me, because Brodeur was unable to start.
Overall it was a solid showing for the Greasers, and I had a lot of fun doing the lines every day and checking out the stats and chatting with a few of you.
That being said, unfortunately I am going to resign from my position as GM of the Oilers. It's unfair to all of you great GM's to have someone who just is unable to put in the appropriate amount of time to make it work like it should. I really tried to give it a shot, unfortunately life just gets in the way and with everything I'm doing now, it's tough to make it a priority. I did my best to get my lines in every day and I wish you all the best. Thanks everyone for being so helpful and for giving me a chance to be a part of your great league.
