Budget is $500-$1000.... just want something I can get from point A to B. Any suggestions/recommendations of where should I look for a used beater in Calgary? Thanks guys.

Craigslist, Mazda 323, worry about the milage not the year.

Oh and when you call someone about an ad start the conversation with 'I'm calling about the car for sale', never use the make or model, if they then ask you 'which car?' you know they are running a curbing operation.

Sorry to not explain, curbing is when you have someone with a modicum of mechanical knowledge who picks up cars at auction, gets them running and generally pretends they are the 'family car'.

It isn't that a car sold by a curber is neccersarily bad or good, you just need to know who you are dealing with and where the car came from.
