What are you reading right now?

Been on a bit of a reading kick the past couple months, and I notice there's threads on here about currents songs/movies/tv shows people are enjoying, but nothing about books. I'm not gonna narrow this down to a certain genre, can be about fiction, non-fiction, whatever.

Anyway, I'm a big non-fiction (history, autobiography, etc) fan, and just finished a fantastic book called Conquistador, by Buddy Levy. It's about the fall of the Aztec empire, courtesy of Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes, and is written in narrative, created from dozens and dozens of first hand accounts and letters/journal entries done by Cortes and many of the men with him. While Aztec society didn't have a true, full written language pre-contact, keeping their side more minimized, there are still some entries from some Aztecs who were there during the fall of Tenochtitlan, giving you a sense of the Aztec view of the fall of their empire.

Absolutely gripping book, I'm usually a slow reader but finished the 330pg book in under a week, just couldn't put it down, unbelieveably thorough, and quite a page turner. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in the historical (and even warfare) genre.

Fortress in the Eye of Time by C.J.Cherryh

I am not really sure what is happening but I have vowed to read it until the end. It has caught my interest and I am mostly enjoying the book but sometimes I wonder what the hell the author is trying to say.

I'm trying to get my foot in the door of the investment game so I'm reading "The Intellegent Investor" by Benjamin Graham (among others). Im only about 1/4 through it but its pretty interesting, to me anyways. It speaks pretty highly of itself, maybe someone who's read it and is in that business can give some insight.

For some reason I am reading two books right now (not something I normally do), the first I am almost done, it is "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides. An interesting novel about 3 generations of a Greek American family with a very interesting twist, extremely solid plot and character development, this book has kept me interested all the way through.

The second book is "So much for that" by Lionel Shriver. First novel I have read by Shriver, though I had heard good things about a few of her other ones. Only about a quarter way through the book, but very impressed so far. Central plot revolves around Shep, a 50ish, husband, father and middle class guy who has always dreamed of leaving his life behind and going to live out the rest of his days in the 3rd world, where his small nest egg could last forever. His plans get derailed at the last minute when his wife is diagnosed with a rare form of cancer...wish I could tell you more but thats as far as I have gotten, with that said, the writing and plot development have been excellent so far.

A Dance With Dragons by George R. R. Martin. I suspect there's going to be a few CPers reading this one at the moment.

After that I'm sure to pick up some sci fi book. Probably something from Iain M. Banks or Isaac Asimov.

On a bit of a non-fiction kick. I got about 50 pages into "The Age of Persuasion" (book based on the radio show). It was intriguing at first but I gave up on it as it essentially reiterates the same few points over and over.

Just started reading "A Geography of Time" by Robert Levine this morning and I'm really enjoying it. They discuss it in the Radiolab episode "Cities," and so far it's basically an expanded version of that podcast.

I'm currently re-reading the Wheel of Time series and trying to catch back up before the last book comes out. According to my Kindle, I'm 40% through Book 5 - The Fires of Heaven.

My wife wanted me to read The Hunger Games Trilogy for kicks, not bad I guess. I get this feeling this isn't so much a wonderful piece of literature as it is an audition to see if someone will buy the rights to a movie production.

Just read my niece "Pat the bunny". Pretty riveting tale, but I didn't appreciate the depiction of her father as some ruffian with a scratchy face.

I've read reviews from people say that it drags quite a bit being over 700 pages long. Do you think the average person that visits this forum would feel the same way? I'm interested but I worry that the book was perhaps overhyped.

I'm only a 1/3 of the way through but I'm not worried about the length of it. Very short stories served up rapid fire. It is written by the guys who also did Live From New York (thanks for the tip troutman!) which I really enjoyed.
